Minor surgery and an infant

So as I mentioned before I have strep throat again for the 2nd time in two months (the 7th time in 2 years). I met with an ENT yesterday to schedule a tonsillectomy. I'm scheduling it before November but am a little nervous about the recovery process & taking care of an infant. MH is taking off a few days to help out and I'm adding more to my freezer stash since I know I won't be able to nurse with those drugs they'll give me. Has anyone had a surgery and had to take care of an infant? How did you prepare?

You can nurse on narcotic meds, they give them post c section all the time! Glad DH is taking time off, GL and hope for a speedy recovery!

Hope you have a speedy recovery! Eat as much ice cream as you can, it will help numb it and if you eat it before something else it will reduce that sandpaper feeling. I had it done when I was a teen.

I'm having surgery tomorrow and am nervous about taking care of LO. This was last minute surgery so my DH couldn't take time off. I'm going to utilize our babysitter as much as possible and I'm so nervous especially because LO isn't sleeping through the night--at all. Good luck with your surgery! I had a tonsillectomy 6 years ago and all I can say is lots of rest and keep up on the pain meds.

I had surgery when little man was 8 weeks old. I needed someone there to help me for two days after (I wasn't allowed to lift more than 10 lbs). I pumped and dumped for 24 hrs after surgery to make sure all of the anesthesia was out of my system. I prepped a bunch of bottles of breast milk, and let my family know I might need to call them to come help out and it was actually really easy to recover from. Good luck with your surgery!

Not to freak you out but I've had two friends recently have their tonsils out and it's taken them a couple weeks to feel normal. My one friend, who was also my coworker, was advised to take 3 weeks off work. She took one and ended up calling off for a second.

Praying its easier for you but can you make "worst case senerio" plans just in case.

Sorry you are going through this @tondraluv! You should be able to nurse; I took oxycodone for about a week after my c-section and was able to nurse without any worry. Just let them know you're breastfeeding because they might know to stay away from certain drugs. But my degrees are in music, not medicine lol.

I had my gallbladder removed a month ago, and I pumped as much as I could prior to surgery and unfortunately had to pump and dump for about 24 hours afterwards to make sure the anaesthesia was out of my system. I was given Tylenol 3's for pain management and was able to nurse while taking them. I made sure that doctors and nurses taking care of me knew I was breast feeding. I am not on here barely. But I'm home this week as I just had a tonsillectomy on Friday! I've had strep throat 6 times since the beginning of the year. I have to say not to scare you.. It has been rough. Today is the first day I am feeling decent enough to function. You are able to nurse on pain meds. I am taking lortab for pain and have amoxicillin as well. My lactation consultant advised me I was able to nurse when I was no longer groggy. Although I did not start nursing again until Sunday when I was feeling a bit better. It is a tough road but so worth it. Remember as much as it hurts to eat and drink as much as possible. Hydration is very important for recovery. Good luck

Also yes you will need someone to help you. My husband has been here with me taking care of our son. He is in daycare during the day. But evening my husband is always around. I'm still not to the point where I comfortable being alone with him. Again good luck. Take all the help you can get

I Find the first 3 days after a surgery the worst. i just had an uncomfortable surgery under my arm. it sucked for the first 2 really bad, the third was a little better, then after that i was sore, but felt okay for the most part. it was my 2yo that was the problematic one, not my infants.
