And on this topic....I didn't have an NT scan with my twins but i DID get an u/s at 13 weeks due to some bleeding. I asked the tech to make a guess and she said my baby A "could" be a boy and baby b was crossing her legs so she couldn't tell.
AND I had 2 girls, lol. So please don't start painting your nursery yet! Because I feel like everyone who posts they got a gender guess at the NT scan says they're having a boy, but in both boys and girls there is something "there" at this early time.
After 2 years, Injects, PCOS diagnosis and 2 IUI's, we were blessed with our beautiful twin girls! Baby Girl #3!
My NT scan is done by my perinatologist on the best available equipment, and he is consistently correct on his guesses. Granted, they are still guesses, but I think who is doing it and the type of machine are very influential in the accuracy.
Guesses at 12 weeks are made by angle of the dangle, not by the look of the nub. Or at least they should be! If anybody's office is saying it looks like a penis, please switch offices.
I sent that link to DH last week after our NT scan! Our u/s tech said Baby is very clearly a boy (which matches my strong mother's intuition), but I'm definitely not painting the nursery just yet.
Unplanned pregnancy July 2005; EDD 3/27/06; birthdaughter born 3/15/06 (38w2d) (placed for adoption).
TTC since December 2012, BFP 6/25/13. EDD 3/2/14. Baby Elias born 2/21/14 (38w5d)!
The same thing happened to me. This is my 1st baby and I am 12.5 weeks.. went for the nuchal translucency ultrasound and the tech said that she was 80% sure we are having a boy. She also mentioned that she normally won't say anything at all about he gender this early. She showed us his prominent little parts and sent us off with pictures. My husband and I were so excited but wanted a 2nd opinion before telling family so we went to an ultrasound place and paid for a DVD and pictures, etc. Before the ultrasound, the woman said that she probably won't tell us either way about the gender because it is too early. When she looked at his little penis and balls she said, "Wow you are right! That's definitely a boy!" She said that she thinks I am a couple weeks farther along too. Has anyone ever experienced or heard stories about the gender of a boy later being a girl?? I have only ever heard the opposite. I'm just so nervous to tell everyone and start buying boy things so early. Thank you!

I tend to agree with this. I had my nt done at the peri too. I'm not painting anything yet, but it was still fun to get a guess yesterday.
All they can do is guess in a NT, no harm in a guess. It was fun for husband and I to have a hint. We are finding out the gender wk 16, but it was nice to have a little heads up for just us. I had an anatomy ultrasound with a specialist this morning & he guessed them same gender. As time goes on we'll see if they're right. For now, it's still exciting!!
