Is anyone else being monitored for IUGR? When did your doctor say you would most likely deliver? They told me "pre term" but that could be anywhere from now until 37 weeks... Just want to here other people's stories and delivery ranges...
Had IUGR with first son, delivered at 34 weeks due to pre-e.
He was 3 pounds, 9 ounces and 15" long. He did a 15 day stay in Nicu but that was was always fine in there. They let him go home once he could maintain his body weight and feed without assistance. We did steroid shots at 30 weeks so that helped.
Honestly the pre-e was probably a bigger issue than the IUGR. If it wasn't for the pre-e they were going to let the pregnancy go as long as it could.
Are you being monitored for pre-e? Seems they two go together quite often.
My DD was IUGR, but delivered at full term because it was not extremely severe. I did have to be induced because they were worried the placenta would stop functioning if the pregnancy continued, and her heart stopped during labor, hence the emergency c-section. I was monitored very closely (2 days a week at the hospital the last month for BPP and NSTs by the MFM) and 2ce weekly appointments at the OB office.
This time, they are monitoring me for it because of some risk factors that have come up and because of my history with it, but so far all is well with this little guy. I have monthly growth scans until 32 weeks and then either biweekly or weekly depending on how he's doing. They are also watching closely for signs of pre-e.
Just growth so far.. I'm only 26.5 weeks though. I'm really hoping that they don't make me deliver until the 30's.
When were you diagnosed and how far behind is little one measuring?
We knew something was up starting at anatomy scan, he was measuring 2-3 weeks behind.
Our OB tried to get us to deliver at 30 weeks but the perinatologist agreed with us that it was safe to let pregnancy proceed. At 34 weeks we probably could have fought to go another week or so with constant monitoring but at that point we were just sick of dealing with our office so we gave in and had c-sect.
I was just diagnosed a little over 2 weeks ago. It is mainly her abdominal measurements that are off. About 3 weeks behind I think. Everythig else is just a little small. I meet with a new OB and a perinatologist on sept 6, because I was transferred to a better hospital with a NICU. I go in for ultrasounds weekly but they don't always take measurements. I'm hoping for some news tomorrow at my appointment.
DD was IUGR and we went full term as well. I am surprised they are already speculating about an early delivery, especially prior to 30 weeks. There are risks but we monitored consistently. Between NST's and growth scans we were with the peri three times a week and did kick counts day and night. It is very stress-full but things can work out just fine. We are being monitored this pregnancy as well and will so another growth scan at 28 weeks to make sure everything is going well. Feel free to PM me if you ever want to vent or talk about it!
With J is was everything minus his head, arms and limbs were measuring very behind.
You should get some extra sonos so they can monitor blood flow through UC and the placenta.
Should add that at his 3 year check-up he was in 50th percentile for height and weight, and he's always been a super healthy kid so don't let this stress you out. :-)
You can write me anytime. I know its hard not to stress about this but know that most IUGR babies are just fine at birth and most catch up to peers 2-3 years from birth.
I probably had IUGR with DD, but it started late (like 35 weeks). I went into labor on my own and delivered at 37w4d. I had low PAPP-A in my early blood test this time around, which is a soft marker for (among other things) IUGR and placental issues, so that plus my history means I am being monitored more closely this time around.
I have a growth u/s at early visit (so far so good -- measuring 65%ile at 24w) and will have NSTs starting in the third tri. I also had GD with my first pregnancy, and since I don't have any other risk factors for it (other than family history), and since it is related to placental function, I am skipping straight to the 3-hour test in a couple of weeks. That's my own special issue, though. The OB just thinks they may be tied together in my case, since it's all about placental function.
Oh, and -- since reassurance is a good thing -- my DD was just a shade under 5 lbs at birth, but very healthy, and gained weight like a champ on mama's milk. She was on the growth charts at her 2 week appointment (at the first %ile, but still!), and continued climbing. At her 2 1/2 year appointment, she was 25%ile for weight and 75%ile for height, so I'd say she's all caught up. Developmentally, she's ahead, if anything, so we have seen zero lasting effects.
