I've been thinking of cutting my Hair lately. I want something bold and beautiful and doesn't require a lot of maintence. I've always had super curly hair which right now sits in the middle of my back. When its straight (and I have the two hours it takes to do it) I can pretty much sit on it. I want to cut it and maybe add some color.Tell me about your hair. What's the craziest thing you've ever done to it? I'll go first:
My hair color is black and the first time I went to get highlights of brown, I let my friend who was in beauty school do it (first mistake). She said she had to bleach it because black hair can't be colored over easily like other hair colors. I reluctantly said okay (second mistake). She started bleaching the strands and wrapping everything in tin foil. Left me alone for about 5-6 mins to talk to her instructor. She then came running over to me and removed one piece of foil and literally screamed. My hair was snow white! I FREAKED THE F-OUT! The instructor was like no big deal and said that they could now color it. Which I let them do (third mistake). I left feeling like crap. Weeks went by and the highlighted pieces just kept drying out. Two and a half years later everything finally grew out and I vowed to never trust a friend to do my hair again.
Re: GTKY: Hair edition
My hair is currently a few inches below my shoulders. It's natuarlly wavy but I usually straighten it. It used to be really long but I tend to get sick of it in the summer (my hair is medium thickness and I have a ton of it) so I chopped it off last summer and I'm still growing it out.
The craziest thing I've probably ever done to my hair was get it cut in Italy by a woman who spoke no English so my friend and I kept trying to explain that I wanted layers. My hair was really long back then and I was going to school in Switzerland for the summer. It was the 90's and I wanted the short hair that Kelly had on 90210. She cut it short and gave me layers. It wasn't exactly what I wanted but it was close enough. ;-)

I am one cheap ass bitch.
ETA: Two months after our wedding, I chopped all my hair off. Cut off 9 inches and went to an ear-length bob. Hubs wasn't too sure about it at first, but he's come around. I'll probably grow it back out, though. That's what I do.

@slappalicious I think the one thing I'm missing is a hair stylist I can trust and will do exactly what I want. When I've cut my hair in the past I had to fight my stylist every step of the way.
In regards to DH: My DH loves long hair as well. Yet he doesn't know the pain I go through to maintain it. So hopefully whatever I decide will grow on him. :-)

I've done so much crap to my hair. Let a friend highlight it once from a kit from walmart. My coarse hair soaked it up and I looked like a skunk.
I once colored it from a Walmart color yet again and my hair turned orange so I colored it again didn't fix it then I colored it again. Still orange. 2 weeks later got a professional to fix it.
My favorite was trying to cut my own hair once, the back of all places. Well I didn't cut it straight. It was long and i had to get it chopped off but my hair is so curly I looked like I had an Afro. So I went to Walmart yet again but this time bought a relaxer that blacks put in their hair to straighten it. It worked but my hair got an orange tint yet again!
It only took me 37 years to figure out NEVER go to Walmart (or anywhere) to buy boxed anything to put on my hair. I only trust professionals now. I have the weirdest hair. It pulls reddish orange and when she highlights it one side is always considerably lighter so she has to do all my hair different.
Freshman year of college, I went to a new stylist who misunderstood that I wanted long layers and chopped it off to the base of my neck. I cried. A LOT. Senior year of college, my BFF and I gave each other a set of spa/salon treatments at graduation gifts. For our day at the salon, we both decided to get subtle highlights. When I decided on mine, she said, "OMG, you'll barely be able to see those highlights! Grow a pair girl!" And so we one-upped each other into bright blonde highlights. We have really dark hair. I thought my mom was going to kill me when she saw the highlights peeking out from my cap on graduation day.
Since then, I don't color my hair. And since Freshmen year, I don't cut my hair above my shoulders. It took years to get back to being healthy at a long length. I go for a trim, deep conditioning and shine treatment every 6 weeks.

The craziest thing I ever did was when I was a Junior in high school. I bought one of those color and highlight combo boxes and made the mistake of having my 13 year old sister color my hair. The actual color wasn't too bad, but the highlights ended up in big random blobs and streaks all over, and was orange. I wore my hair in a ponytail the next day at school and ran to my hair stylist that evening begging him to help me. He said the only thing I could do was buy the darkest color possible to cover it up, so for a couple months after I had jet black hair. It was a lovely time! I tried going practically black about a year ago and it looked much better this time around, then again I look a lot different than I did in HS (and I had a professional do it

Yes! I'm in this phase too... I constantly look like I have a mullet. I love it pixie short, but DH has never seen me with long hair so I'm going to grow it out one more time.
The craziest thing I ever did was shave my head.

But other than being shiny & a pretty (fake) color, my hair sucks. It's so thin & fine it looks like 1st grader hair. It actually looks a lot like Piper's hair in Orange is the New Black. I just kind of keep it shoulderish length and slightly layered and accept that it's not good hair. Sometimes I do bangs but bad bangs can ruin your day, every day that you have them...and it's SO hard to find a stylist who does good bangs.
Craziest thing I did was decide to dye it blue black with a box of L'Oreal Feria. Over bleached blond. It was Bic pen blue for a few days and then it faded into a brownish green, like a baby turd. After a few months, I finally convinced my mom to let me get it fixed. It was really expensive and took about 7 hours.
My hair in the lovely pixie days. And yes, that's my real smile.
