Not Eating **Update**

Well I'm still not eating. So last night I called the hospital to see if I needed to come in and get check or if there's something I can take over the counter. Mind you the nearest hospital is an hour + away from my house. So I didn't want to make a blank trip if it was something minor. Anyways this lady "the nurse" said I can't do anything without a doctor and I can't get a doctor without insurance. Now I have nowhere to turn. Does anyone have any advice?? Because I'm not eating, I'm throwing up bile and a little blood (because my throat is cut) is that normal or what??

  • That's not normal and you need to see the doctor.

  • You need to make an appt with a doctor. If you dont have insurance try maybe a free pregnancy clinic or one.based on income and get a prescription.for zofran.

  • And if you show up at the Ed they will treat you, insurance or not.

  • Not eating leads to dehydration (been there with my last). So it is important to be seen. To be admitted to a hospital without going through the ER you need a Dr to call that in. However, you can go to an ER and they cannot refuse you for no insurance. I didn't read your original post so I'm not sure why you don't have a Dr, but you can go to your local health department if you don't have insurance.

  • I have to make an appointment to see them. They advised me to see my doctor. So that puts me back in the loop.
  • Paying out of pocket for an appointment with an OB would almost certainly be cheaper than an ER as well

You have to have an appointment at the emergency room?

  • No to go to the local health department.
  • You need to see a doctor. Do you have a local walk in clinic or urgent care? Even an RN or NP could write you a prescription. That's insanity that she would turn you away
  • I agree with the other ladies, this is not normal and needs to be checked out. You can go to a walk in clinic or even the ER. You said you don't have insurance,  do you qualify for medicaid?

  • I didn't see the part about insurance. Go to a Pcp, some will work on a sliding scale and let you do a payment plan.
  • I do qualify but I haven't heard from them since I applied last week.

This. Also, I know my doc works with people without insurance... ask if yours does, they might keep it on the DL, you know? I grew up without insurance and didnt have it till I got a job with a company that offered it at 23, so.. I feel ya.

Ok unfortunately,  it can take up to 3 weeks. Until then I suggest a walkin or ER. Walkin clinics are usually reasonable.

In a lot of states Medicaid will retroactively cover expenses you incur between application and approval. That means that if you go to see a doctor now, you MAY get expenses reimbursed. You definitely need to see a provider whether it is a walk-in clinic, OB office, urgent care, or ER.

Yes this! Go the the ER they will have to treat you and usually Medicaid will cove the bill retroactively.
