Rafting Trip???

This may be a really silly question with an obvious answer, but I'm still trying to seek honest opinions of people who can provide them. My husband and I, along with a group of friends, have planned a white water rafting trip for this weekend. I just found out that I'm 4 weeks along and so far I have had mixed reviews as to whether or not I should still go. I am fine with not going or going, whatever is safest is obviously the route I want to go, but if it's okay to go, then I don't want to miss out on the trip. I spoke to the rafting facility about any pregnancy policy and they assured me that pregnant women have gone before, you wear a life vest, and precautions can be taken to make sure you do not fall out of the raft. So, I'm not sure what to do. I don't mean any of this to sound selfish, like I said, I would be totally fine not going. Just interested in hearing what other Moms would suggest :)

Re: Rafting Trip???

  • I wouldn't go but with my history I err on the side of caution.

  • I suppose it might depend on the size of the rapids and your experience and comfort level. If it's an intense course, maybe it's better to sit this one out. If it's an all ages, all experience level course, I would go. That little baby is tucked pretty good inside right now.

  • I agree ^^^ The rafting trips Ive been on have all been extremely physically demanding with very rough water. I would not do those types of trips while pregnant. If it's more of a gentle float where families and little kids can participate, I would think it'd be fine.

  • Yeah, what is the age restriction on the river you're going on? If like 7 year olds can go, you're probably fine. If it's very physically demanding, and you're not in good shape, I wouldn't go.

  • From my past experiences with rafting, I would not go. I've been thrown overboard, pinned underwater, knocked around. I am clearly not good. If you are a pro OR its a kiddie trip, go for it. otherwise I would sit it out and just come for the picnic.

  • Float trips are fine -I did one this summer. However I would be worried about regular white water rafting. You get bounced around and could fall out. That happened to me once and I was pinned under the raft under water.
You could always fake a injury if you cant tell people yet. Maybe a sprained wrist?
  • I would err on the side of caution and sit this one out

  • I wouldn't go.. I, personally, would blame myself if something were to happen.
