  • My H keeps track of what we spend and we have a spreadsheet of how much we owe in bills but we don't really budget persay. Like we don't have $x to spend on food for the month. We put everything on a credit card every month and pay it off (to get cash back) and we have a certain amount we aim to keep the cc under every month but if we go over a bit it's not a big deal.

I am a SS. We budget yearly and include all our reoccurring expenses and how much we want to spend in different categories like eating out or vacations for the year. We look at what we spent at the end if each month to make sure we are on track.
Yup.  That's what I do too.

I'm kind of in between.... I know exactly what I need to pay each month and I have it written out and planned for each paycheck. Basically I know I have 2 pay checks a month, one goes towards bills A, B, C. And paycheck 2 goes to pay bills X, Y, Z. Both checks buy gas and groceries in addition. If something pops up, like car maintenance, or other random things I usually have a little extra for those things. But I also have 5% of my paycheck automatically deposited into a savings account, so if we have emergencies or a big surprise, I take from there occasionally to take care of those random things,
This is pretty much how I do mine also. Same pay time and everything.

I guess I am SS. I try to stick to the same budget every month. If we have any type of salary change or bills added in then I tweak things, but that's pretty rare.
What does SS stand for? I basically do this. I always leave a little extra in the account after the bills are paid for that week or 2 week period and then I transfer the rest to savings.
Special Snowflake... because no matter how hard you try there will always be people who don't fit the responses given.... because we're all little special snowflakes....

  • Usually I would reply "whats a budget", but since we overspent by way too much in July, we made our very first actual budget for August. I mean, MH always keeps track of our spending and has spreadsheets with categories and what not, but this month was the first time I was given a monthly budget for certain things. We wanted to give ourselves the bare minimum and see if we could do it and go from there. So far I'm about $50 over budget (for groceries and misc) so I'd say I'm doing pretty well!
