April 2013 Moms

Anyone want to commiserate?

Seriously my LO was a better sleeper from 1-3 months than she is now.

We go through an array of challenges over here; there are the nights when everytime I put her down she's up within a half hour, this typically goes on for 3 hours or so. There's the nights she wakes up multiple times.....and the norm is stretches of 4 hours or so. Occasionally I get a 5,6 or 7 hour stretch but those nights are becoming less and less.

As a FTM - I want to lose it. I'm beyond frustrated and have no idea where I can get any advice on how to make things better, but I can't keep going like this. I'm exhausted ALL.the.time. And I resent my husband.

I've been supplementing for three weeks now so she's eating a lot more during the day and I've started giving her bottles at bedtime, so she's going to bed with a fuller belly now than before.

What the hell gives!?!?!??

I realize none of you can probably tell me that but maybe you can sympathize. I'm about to have a good, solid cry over here, at 11:30 at night with a huge day of work visitors and meetings on tap tomorrow :(

Re: Anyone want to commiserate?

  • Yep, I went through 6 1/2 weeks of him waking up at night every 1.5 hours at the most and having my bouts of insomnia. Then not sleeping for naps during the day for more than 20 minutes at most. It was hard and I was always tired. I still am tired.. he still gets up three times a night now, but it is better to have 3 hours sleep than half that. He is still napping at 10-20 minutes a time only a few times a day which I think is making him even more fussy.

I am sorry you are going through this, really. It should get better.. it will get better. I honestly think they are so excited to notice everything now. No matter how much Connor ate, he would still wake up the same frequency. What doesn't kill you will only make you stronger!

It's ok to have a good cry & this'll pass. DS slept sooo much better months 2-3. I blame it on teething mixed with the wakeful period but i know every baby is different. He just started sleeping better again a week and a half ago. Talk to your husband about your needs because closed months dont get fed ( unless you already have then he deserves a good ole ball twist). Try not to stress because it'll only magnify the feelings you have now. I'm sorry I don't have any advice for you >:D<

  • I am with ya and it sucks!!! My baby STTN until 3 months and at 3 months everything went down hill and we have never recovered! I am so tired!!! She wakes up every 2 hours then starting at 4:00 it's every 30-45 minutes until she is up for the day at .6!!!!!

Idk what's going on tonight (teething?) but she has been up every 30-45 minutes since 10pm!!! I am going out of my mind!!!

  • Omg my 4 month old has slept terribly the past 2 nights. She has never slept so bad. She had been a great sleeper almost since day one, so this is very unusual for her. Lets hope it passes quickly.
  • I'm with you. I want to cry when I read all the posts here about babies sleeping even 6hrs a night, let alone the 10-12 hrs. We put LO down between 630-730 based on her cues. Most nights wakes up between 10-1130 an we give her a bottle to get her good and full but she still wakes up at 2 to eat. Then again around 430.

She has given us a night here and there skipping the 2am feeding but I really wish it could become more regular. I believe at this point, especially with a bottle she should be able to go 5-6 hrs instead of 2-3.

  • Yes. Pretty rough over here too. We were doing 12, yes 12 hour stretches for a few weeks a few months ago and now it's all f-Ed up. Last night he got up three times and my ds1 got up once so I didn't sleep more than 2 hours at a time. Just about ready to collapse.
  • I'm glad to know I am not alone, although I feel for all of  us :(

I never got more than 45 minutes out of DD last night from 9:30 - 12:30. I finally put her in her Rock N Play and she slept for almost 6 hours. I HATE doing that and want her to be 100% in the crib, but I couldn't take it anymore.

i have NO idea why she will sleep in there but not in her crib......I would've thought the culprit last night was teething, but honestly I have thought she was about to pop a tooth for months now and nothing...... and I don't want to keep giving her tylenol when I can't be sure its necessary.

Just feeling SO frustrated and helpless :(

Oh my Lord, if she sleeps in the RnP, screw the crib -- you all need sleep.  She'll get into the crib eventually, but right now, seriously, sleep is more important for you ALL than where she sleeps.  I was about to suggest a swing and then I read further down the string and saw this.  James can't really seem to stay AWAKE when I put him in the swing... do you have one?  My pedi says they are sleep-safe as long as they are fully reclined and he's buckled in.  He naps in it a lot.  We have one that has both battery and plug-in power, so it is nice and portable.  Best money I've ever spent.

We do have a swing - but she's not big into it anymore like she was when she was first born.....I'm not even sure the last time she was in it to be honest. The Rock N Play is easier b/c it is right next to me - swing is in living room.....

I should probably take your advice and not get so hung up on where she sleeps.....  I can't help it though - I really thought by now we'd have much more of a routine and things would be easier.

Don't feel bad for doing what you need to do to get some sleep! I remember feeling really defeated at this point with DD because I was so tired all the time and saw no end in sight. I was worried that she would never sleep in her crib and would never sleep all night. But she eventually slept and I survived. This time, I just keep telling myself that this stage won't last forever and soon, I know I will miss snuggling DS in the middle of the night (as crazy as that sounds now). You can do it!!!
I love this response! Thanks for the perspective from someone who's BTDT.

I'm craving a routine too, and he's very sporadic which is hard, so I get that.

I hope my post didn't sound rude, I was just trying to say... don't be so hard on yourself that she's not in her own room yet... just take the sleep in any form you can get it, location will ultimately follow.  Certainly before she leaves for college.  Ha.

I'll sympathize! For the last month we have been up every two hours each night. M eats around the clock, every two hours. He will.not.nurse if I try to get him to when he's not hungry. There was a week in there when he was up every.single.hour. It might work for some babies, but more food during the day does not work in this house. I've not out a label on the crazy sleeping, just that he is an unique baby and eventually his sleeping will get better. Right now, he needs us for everything. I'm exhausted too. I really try not to dwell on it...just go with the flow. Hang in there!! >:D< ETA and I can't force food down his gullet because he refuses to take a bottle. :)
