Cashingn2 did you see this?
The school kids are starving because they have to eat brown wheat bread and 1% milk.
I just have no words.
Although, I do find it somewhat entertaining that they told the first lady the food tastes like "vomit."

This article is sad.
Kentucky was tied with Texas last year for the fattest state in the country (based on data provided by the CDC). This could be an issue of pure ignorance, where some of these kids have never been fed these foods before and don't know what they are.
Did anyone watch Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution a few years ago? He tried to implement something similar in a school in Huntington, WV (fattest city in the nation, at the time). Some of the kids in the school couldn't identify cauliflower or broccoli.

Now, I eat in the cafeteria randomly. I like spaghetti day, and I don't think any of my kids are stubborn enough that if they are not getting dinner at night, they won't take what's presented to them.
I do however, see how much food is wasted, and honestly I don't think this food they're serving is much healthier than what was served previously, so I do think there needs to be some sort of change. I just am not positive as to what, and I don't think that this article is helping that change happen.
Um, yes. You are correct.
I live in Cincinnati; geographically separated from Kentucky only by the Ohio River. Not to say that Cincinnati is THE most progressive place, in terms of health and nutrition, but Kentucky is f**king ridiculous.
