Nanny Pay / Nanny Share ?

Hello - I'm considering doing a nanny share.  For those who have hired nannies, is it standard to pay for vacation? Sick days?  I would think so, just need to get my arms around what is "standard."  And special consideration regarding pay when doing a nanny share vs. having your own nanny? Thanks!!!!

Re: Nanny Pay / Nanny Share ?

  • We're going into a nanny share as well. We agreed upon two weeks full pay, sick days and statutory holidays. The thing we need to work out is what to do when one family needs the nanny and the other doesn't (ex: I'm home from work and kids stay home with me instead of nanny being here) and who would pay. Also working out where kids will nap, food, house they'll play in and what will be easier. Our nanny share is only 4 months long then she's just with us. I think I would've agreed to the share if it wasn't short term.

  • I have several friends that have worked as full time Nannies, and they did get some sick and vacation days.

  • We did a nanny share before we hired our own nanny and we agreed that she would have some paid vacation and sick days.  Assuming that she doesn't take more days than we agreed upon, we pay her the same amount every week.  She's basically like a salaried employee.  I do pay overtime if she works extra.  I also always pay if she is off because we are out of town.

  • We did 10 days of PTO/year and holidays. Of course she was paid if we were on vacation as well. That wasn't included in the above. As for HER sick days, we didn't pay her or she could choose to take a PTO day. We would pay her if one of our kids were sick.

  • We do a nanny share, but do not use her on a full time basis. We pay her a flat rate for 2 days of care and we do pay her regardless if something comes up- ie- I stay home, my moms in town, she is sick.....
I have used her outside of the normal 2 days and she charges hourly for that- usually it's just a quick pick up or drop off situation.
  • Thanks everyone!  Our nanny share is a bit funky because my husband is a teacher so we only need one day over the summer.  And the other mom is a nurse so she only needs three days year round.  Luckily our nanny is ok with working only 3days / week in the summer.
