Success after IF

2 questions...

hi ladies - happy monday!

two quick questions for you, and one makes me feel like a total IF rookie! first off, i am still pumping so am in a weird limbo with AF. however this weekend got some pangs on both sides of ovaries. the first one i assumed was my dermoid acting up, but then got some little zings on the other side too. then yesterday and today had a lot of cervical mucus (sorry tmi!) which hasn't happened in a long time. is it at all possible that my body is ovulating on its own? don't expect you all to be mind readers, but i guess my question is does cervical mucus always indicate ovulation or is that a false statement? wow that makes me feel like a newbie haha.

number two: DS has had two nights over the past three nights where he's had a rough one. he's woken up crying around 9:30pm after going down around 7pm for the night. i let him go about 15 mins or so before i went in to get him. both times he drained a 4 oz bottle but would not settle. no burp, no poop, but would fall dead asleep on my shoulder and grip to my arm for dear life. then the second me or DH put him in the crib he screamed bloody murder. i never ever bed share, but brought him into our bed at midnight after hours of not being able to comfort him in the crib. then he kept dh and i up for two hours since we couldn't really sleep with him there. he did fall asleep on our bed though. then finally at 2am i brought him (sleeping) into his crib again and he screamed for 1.5 hours. i felt AWFUL and don't believe in 100% CIO but what other options did I have? DH had a early flight for work so i felt badly letting DS sleep in our bed and keep him up. i literally tried everything to comfort him. he finally fell asleep at 3:35am, but has anyone else had this occur? he usually will either STTN or wake once, drink a small bottle, and go right down. could this be a form of separation anxiety at nighttime? i'm fearing that this is becoming a new habit/pattern. for those bumpies on mobile DS and DD are almost 8 mos. oh yeah and PS even thought DS was in a different room than DD he woke her up wth his screaming and then she cried until 4am. needless to say i'm running on 2 hrs sleep. cray cray.

Re: 2 questions...

  • You can still get pregnant and ovulate while bfding so I would say you were ovulating. I would pee on a stick to double check. As far as baby I just think it is a growth spurt (especially if he killed his bottle) and because it happens often when they are growing. Random bad nights, up every few hours. I don't think you have to let him cry it out it just may be a stage that will last a few nights. I remember that happening a bunch of times during his first year. Bringing DS to bed NEVER worked for us he would just start playing even if he was sick since we never let him sleep in bed with us. So your best bet is to put him back in his crib. Hopefully tonight will be better. I would just try to stick to your normal schedule as much as possible. I feel like if you really start getting up every wimper they learn - mommy will come (not saying it's a bad thing) but if you have a good routine going they can get in a bad habit but not hard to get them back on what you were doing. Hang in there!

  • I agree with the PP you should test with an OPK to see if maybe you are ovulating.

DS would wake up at night, but he would never scream. The one time he did, he had a double ear infection, and it hurt him to lay down. He never grabbed at his ears, and he was fine during the day, and only running a mild temp.  Is your LO running a temp at all?

After 4 years, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs our surprise miracle is here!

  • I'm horrible with the ovulation stuff. I did get my first PP AF around 5mo.

J is in a crying sleep regression today (she is almost 8mo). She is also fussier than her normal sweet self. So I slid my finger along her bottom gums and I feel a tooth! So check for a tooth because that can set off sleep problems because your baby is in pain.

    Good luck!

  • If it was just one night I wouldn't CIO yet. Like PP said he might have an ear infection or even be teething. I'd wait and see if it becomes more of a pattern before worrying. I am so sorry you had a rough night and hope tonight is better!

  • I agree with PP's that the only way to know is to test.  I'm in a similar boat.  I'm getting some signs that seem like it might be O, but with my body, PCOS, and BFing, who freaking knows?!?!

Sorry LO is having a rough time.  Did he do better last night?  My first thought was to check his temp.  Sometimes they just have these bad nights and there's no telling what was wrong.  Sometimes we realize the next morning that she was getting a cold and she probably woke up with a headache or not feeling well.  Or maybe it's a tooth.  There's just no telling.  When it's waking out of character for E, I try to comfort as much as we can.  We try the usual suspects - gas drops, gripe water, tylenol, and rock rock rocking.  GL and I hope LO is feeling better and you got some rest.

  • Hey ladies. Thx so much for the responses. He started fussing and crying right on cue again at 9:30 last night but I let him put himself back to sleep. After ten minutes of rolling around he settled and slept until 6! Phew. I think I just need to learn they are mini humans and don't always need to be run to the second they cry. I need to give them a chance to fall back asleep. Thx again so much ! And TJ hope you're Oing naturally too! Ain't pcos a b**tch?

Thanks! And yes, yes PCOS is!
Good job letting him work it out. It's hard to let go, but it will be good for both of you.
