Maternity Clothes

I am very excited to have finally started showing my bump (although it's only really visible to my husband and I)! I first noticed it towards the end of week 11 and I am seeing it more now that I am in week 12.

I've started perusing the maternity clothing websites and am shocked to find how expensive the clothing is! Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I can find more reasonably priced maternity clothing? Also, is my maternity size the same size number as my pre-pregnancy size?

Thanks!

Re: Maternity Clothes

  • Consignment shops is where I go but I love those stores, plus the mall is way to far from me!

  • Target has decent prices and I actually found that jeans were pretty reasonable at motherhood maternity. The jeans there were small, medium, large so I just tried on the sizes to see what fit best. They have little strap on pillow tummies you can use to see if the pants will still fit as your belly grows too. I'm definitely glad I went and tried things on in the store rather than ordering online.

  • Target has great maternity clothes that are affordable! I just got a few pairs of jeans online on clearance and they fit (pre-pregnancy jeans are no longer an option - they don't fit at all). I'm a FTM so not sure how the jeans I've bought will fit later on but I've heard the pre-pregnancy size should be good.

  • The sizes run differently so you should try them on. I bought a lot of cute ones at consignment stores and target. I like targets simple t shirts that are scrunched on the side and they are 14.00

  • I got a lot at Kohls. They had buy one get one half off and then 46% off all. If you catch their sales it isn't bad.

  • Yes, your size is the same.
I ordered a few shirts from WalMart this time around, about $10 a piece, with a dollar shipping per item (my local walmart does not have maternity clothes, maybe others do?)... Last pregnancy I bought a lot from Ebay, but only half the stuff fit. That's one way to save some money though, buying used.

  • I had good luck at Macy's (some have a maternity section), Gap, Old Navy, and got a few things at consignment stores and Target. Here's my two cents though- get things you like and feel good in, not just cheap things. A the end I felt so ugly and swollen and was happy I had things that were cute and fit right to at least make me feel a bit better about how I looked. I bought quite a few pairs of cheap jeans through my last two pregnancies but the ones I liked the best were the Paige jeans I spent a little more on but got a ton more wear out of because they were better quality and fit.

  • I just shopped at Burlington coat factory and got jeans for $16.99. It's slim pickings at the store by me though. I also got a few jeans at khols I walked out with two pairs for $55.00.
  • I got the majority of mine last time from Old Navy and Thyme Maternity. Thyme is expensive but their sales are good when they have them. Old Navy was cheap, but so were the clothes. But I would still buy from there again, just beware they aren't great quality.
I find maternity clothes are bigger than normal clothes. All my maternity clothes are small or extra small.

  • H&M and Forever 21 have maternity clothes!
  • Sizing is usually about the same.  The Gap has some pretty good sales, I bought a lot of my basics there.  I did a lot of shopping at Thrift stores (do you have a Savers near you?) and found lots of great maternity stuff there for cheap!  Most of it is very lightly used since you don't really wear them all that long.

I found this as well.  I normally wear a large top, but the large really just hung off me.  I got a few mediums instead.

  • Burlington Coat Factory! Cheapest place I have found.
  • I got Gap and some Motherhood Maternity for work clothes (business casual) and Old Navy and Target for casual clothes. I found that sizing was about the same as my pre pregnancy size.

  • You can get some good sales at Old Navy and Motherhood usually has a really good clearance rack.

  • Ross is the cheapest place I found. If you don't mind hunting for things, thrift stores have some things too. Old Navy is inexpensive. IME, a great pair of jeans is a good investment but they don't hold up like regular jeans so keep that in mind when you see price tags.
