Stretch marks!!

So I totally haven't been putting anything on my belly, I didn't see any stretchmarks yet so I totally forgot. Now I'm panicking - are they coming after the baby?? What are you guys using? I'm trying to avoid chemicals and non toxic on lotions and stuff. Suggestions???

Re: Stretch marks!!

  • They will appear out of no where and there isn't anything you can do about it. Muahahaha! Seriously though. If you're going to get them you will. There is no proven fact that any kind of creams or oils actually do anything. But that doesn't mean you can't try. I use bi-oil and stay overly hydrated so my skin has some extra elasticity. Many women use cocoa butter. Good luck!

  • Firstly, stretch marks are not going to come after you deliver, unless you get them on your boobs. Admittedly, you boobs may grow a little more after delivery. Furthermore, it's really hit or miss whether you get them or not. If you're going to get them, you will, and if you're not, you won't. Most lotions and cremes marketed for this purpose are no more effective than regular lotions, or just drinking lots of water to improve your skin's elasticity. Most people will say they're genetic - that's probably the case, but just because you mother/grandmother got or didn't get them doesn't really indicate if you're genetically disposed or not. I know that no women in my family get them, but I got them to the extreme. My recommendation would be to calm down and not worry about it.

I think for the most part stretch marks are genetic. So lotions really don't prevent them. I put organic coconut oil on my skin each morning just to keep it hydrated. I do this when I'm not pregnant as well.

It's genetic. You either get them or you don't. A simple google search would tell you this.

  • Well thanks, you're a genius! Tell me why are you on the boards here since you know everything and obviously do not want to answer women, or be supportive?

You're also not new to TB. You posted here back in April asking why you were already showing at 7 weeks "preggers".

And why post things on an internet forum if you're not open to all the responses you receive?

Look, she was a little snarky, but that's not against TOS and her point was perfectly valid - a google search will tell you that there's little to be done for them. No need to get all upset. Also, support is a relative term - one could argue that she was being supportive when she suggested that you learn to use Google to help yourself.

  • I've googled- I just wanted to know if other people were using creams and if so what kinds. Yes snarky she is- I just don't see the need for snarky responses. This is a forum where other pregnant women can talk to each other and get advice etc not where they need to be snarky. I'm open to all advice- use cream, don't,
Not worried about it, etc not "use google"

You didn't answer my first question - why post on an internet forum then? You never know how people will react, and they have every right to say whatever they want. I didn't see anything in the TOS saying this forum was for pregnant people to only get advice they want to hear, or that being snarky is against the rules.

All I'm saying is that if you're going to ask advice on the internet, it's better to have a thicker skin. You won't always hear exactly what you want to. I'm letting you know as a courtesy. If you can let stuff like this roll off your back, you'll get lots of "support" here.

You're welcome, and good luck! I really hope you decide to stick around a little bit more.

Chill woman. She was just saying it's a popular post that gets a bit repetitive/annoying. The consensus is always "if your going to get them, there's nothing you can do". But hey...enjoy your coconut oil bath!

  • Oh, the ole, this place is for support claim. Haven't seen that before.

But seriously OP, I've been rubbing cocoa butter on my belly this entire pregnancy and last night I noticed the beginnings of stretch marks on my sides. It's going to happen even if you do lotion.

  • Quick get me some popcorn!!!!!! Making my Tuesday awesome already
  • Oh good god. Watch your weight gain and use lotion if you want. But it's all genetic and no one is being that snarky.
  • I was going to play nice even though this thread is kind of silly until you started insulting one of my favourite bumpies for no reason. Have fun freaking out about something so trivial.

@Ktrue85 add to your nickel collection a nickel for every time someone complains about and tries to explain the purpose of the forum to us. Now you're a biiiiillionaire!

  • I also use coconut oil on my tummy and boobs :) It smells great, and even if it doesn't actually help prevent them, it certainly can't hurt.
  • @kimvpthomspon - I heard that! Thanks :) is it paste I'm looking for or actual oil?

You can most definitly get them after you deliver.
