RH Negative Shot

Who is having to get a RH- shot? Any Bumpies that have had them with previous pregnancies and did it make you sick? I get my RH- shot in about a week and am a little nervous it will make me sick.

Re: RH Negative Shot

  • I had it in week 3 of this pregnancy( due to spotting) I did not feel any side effects from it. I'm assuming I shall be getting another shot coming up
    Soon, thanks for the reminder!

  • RH negative here!

I get it during my pregnancy and after delivery. For me, the injection site is sore for like a day, but that's it. It doesn't make me sick. GL!

  • I have had the rhogam shot 5 times [twice for 2 miscarriages, twice for my DD - at 28 weeks and after birth, and once for bleeding early in this pregnancy]. It has never made me sick. It hurts a little for a day or so where they inject you, either the arm or thigh, but the rhogam itself has never effected me. You should be fine!

  • I had one early due to a sub chorionic hemorrhage. I will have another at 28 weeks and one at delivery. I have had them for all my other pg's too. Only time I ever had an issue was when they gave it to me in my arm. It hurt for a week.

  • FTR, I have to get mine in my butt. Is that not normal? Everyone else seems to be saying thigh/arm. Just wondering if my OB has a butt fascination that I should be concerned about.

  • I had one around 14 weeks.  It was an IM shot in the hip/buttocks area.  It did not make me sick at all.  It might have been a little bit sore that evening but nothing major.  It is nothing to be worried about.

  • I've had it 5 times and I've never had any negative side effects, aside from soreness at the injection site.

  • I've had it with all of my pregnancies...never made me sick.

Last pregnancy, I asked the nurse if I could get it in my arm and she said the needle is so big that she would feel awful injecting it into someone's arm. I always get it in the butt.
As for OP's question, I had it twice last pregnancy, once for my miscarriage and once this time for spotting. No side effects at all. I am expecting another one in 4 weeks.

  • Sweet action. That was going to be an awkward conversation with her...

  • Ihave to get mine as well in about a week and a half..
I'm assuming if the needle is big I'll opt for the butt haha..
  • I've had it 3 times this pregnancy. No side effects for me.

  • I am RH negative and had to get the shot after I had a miscarriage in February.  I haven't gotten yet with this pregnancy, I think I might get it at my next appointment. When I got it in February I didn't have any side effects other than a very sore arm for a day or so! It's not a big deal at all!

I had the shot in my arm each time during my last pregnancy and didn't think it was any different from other shots.

  • Butt is best in my experience, at least when it comes to the shot. :)

  • 4 shots in the arm so far with no difficulties! I'm negative and DH is positive so this is always a must for us.

  • I got it in the butt both times, and it was no big deal either time.  The second time the nurse giving me the shot swapped out the big needle that comes with the dosage for a smaller one.  If you're worried about being sore, you could ask for that.

  • I was born with Rh incompatibility. They had to induce my mom a month early and I was in intensive care for over a month and had 3 blood transfusions. That was in the 1980s and my mom always says how she wished they had given her the shot she needed. Maybe they didn't test back then? I don't know. But I almost died and am so grateful they can prevent what I and my mom went through.
  • They don't have side effects that I've noticed, other than the area being slightly sore afterwards (but when is it not after a shot?). I've had it once in the butt and two times in the arm to date. twice was from my first miscarriage to try and prevent it, and once just to be safe at 8 weeks with this one mainly after some spotting.

I'll be getting my next one in about a month and I'm not worried about it at all.

  • I had it with my son and after my miscarriages.  No pain and no sickness, however everyone is different!

  • Awesome! My sister said hers made her sick but I was hoping she was just being dramatic, which happens a lot.
  • I'm Rh neg, DH is pos. I've had rhogam shots with 2 previous miscarriages. Due for one in 3 weeks. I have never had side affects or any soreness at injection site.
  • I had the rhogam shot (in the bum) about a month ago.  It stung like a biotch, but no lingering soreness or other side effects.  I love that modern medicine has turned a potentially serious issue into a NBD.
