I think you get into trouble when you regularly paint and remove polish. I don't think taking it off once will be harmful if you do it in a ventilated place. That being said, I do feel strongly that I will not paint my nails once during pregnancy. I find it embarrassing and ridiculous that Europe gets to have safe nail polish but the US government doesn't care enough about us to regulate beauty products safety. Rant over.
I got a regular pedi/mani with my son. I had fake nails up until he was born. I'm still getting shellac every 2 weeks. I do have the awful habit of peeling the nail polish off myself before going in to get my nails done.
I have an at home gel manicure kit so I do that stuff myself. I will be doing my nails and even treating myself to salon Manu pedis during my pregnancy. Maybe ask your manicurist for one of those little paper masks if the salon smells like acrylic and acetone. That's what I'm going to do when I go see my nail techs.
I do the gel home thing also. I've heard it's not good and the uv lamp is also not good. Haven't made a final decision but also have read that Essie and OPI are safe. Essie wins for now as I already have some. Will see if it lasts for more than 2 days chip free:/
I know Zoya and Julep are also supposed to be safer too since they're free of formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, toluene, or DBP. I still paint my nails but I primarily only own Zoya, Julep, OPI and Essie.
