NEW - Healthy Pregnancy/Healthy Mama Check-in!

There was a decent amount of interest in a Healthy Pregnancy/Healthy Mama Check-in when I asked over the weekend.... so here it is! I stole a lot of this format from Feb 14, so we'll see if it works for us and adjust as we see necessary! Feedback welcome on the format of the check-in. :)

This check-in is dedicated to cheering each other on and keeping ourselves health conscious throughout our pregnancies with healthy diets and exercise for the benefit of both us and our LOs. We'll be checking in on Tuesdays with an accountability check-in on Fridays.  (This just means we will do this official check in on Tuesday and then on Friday will be a "how did you do?" type post). 

If today is your first time joining us, give us a brief intro with your responses so we can get to know you. Welcome! (So, today - that's EVERYONE!) :)

  • Hi everyone! Sarahbeth27 here! I hope this check-in will help me to stay on track a little better than I did when I was pregnant with my son! DS is 2 years old and it took is 14 months to conceive this LO (with a loss in the middle). Look forward to getting to know you all better!

    How far along are you? Somewhere between 5w-5w2d

    Weight gain to date? Zero

    What are your fitness goals during pregnancy? Keep weight gain to 35 pounds or less, remain active.

    What is your plan to stay on track? Continue to count calories (just in a different way! - no more 1200 cals a day here!), keep running through first and second (as much as possible) tri and then remain active w/ walks/yoga in third tri. 

    So far.... the good? the bad? Good: I've been continuing to make healthy food choices for the most part. Bad: I've been tired and making excused to not run. Although I did get out for 3 miles last night. It was HOT!

    Upcoming milestones/appointments? First ultrasound next Tuesday, 6 weeks!

    QOTD/GTKY: What kind of car do you drive? Do you like it? Why or why not? I drive a Ford Edge and I like it. It's been a good family car so far.

    What are your fitness goals during pregnancy?:
    Gain no more than 15#, stay active-gym at least 3x/wk
    What is your plan to stay on track?:
    I think this board is a good start. My husband exercises with me so that helps motivation. Eating is harder...pre-prego I used myfitnesspal, but I haven't been doing that for the past few weeks.
    So far.... the good? the bad?:
    Eating semi-healthy, but the carbs are calling!!! I've only been going to the gym 2x/wk
    Upcoming milestones/appointments?:
    First appointment in 2 days, and I can't wait!
    QOTD/GTKY: What kind of car do you drive? Do you like it? Why or why not?:
    I drive a RAV4, which I love. I've had some back problems and needed a car that was high enough to reach in and out of with a baby without hurting it :)

    Weight gain to date? -4 lbs

    What are your fitness goals during pregnancy? About an hour a day ( haven't been doing well. Damn you morning sickness!!!)

    What is your plan to stay on track? My DH is helping me tremendously

    So far.... the good? the bad? The good... I'm having a baby!!! The bad.... I have basically had every symptom there could ever be

    Upcoming milestones/appointments? I have an appointment today with my NEW OB. I had to break up with the last ( he was kind of a creep!)

    QOTD/GTKY: What kind of car do you drive? Do you like it? Why or why not? I drive a 2012 Cadillac SRX. I looooove it. Why it is so comfy!! and pretty and baby friendly already!! Do have to say though that I miss my jeep Cherokee.
  • How far along are you? 8 and some change

    Weight gain to date? I don't plan on weighing myself for this pregnancy. 

    What are your fitness goals during pregnancy? I would like to continue to jog for the pregnancy and strength training.  I stopped jogging a couple of weeks ago with extreme nausea and fatigue, but since starting synthyroid and iron supplements, this week I actually feel human, so I'm going to go for a jog either today or tomorrow

    What is your plan to stay on track? I'm going to listen to my body and do what's within my limits. 

    So far.... the good? the bad? Bad nausea and fatigue for a couple of weeks.  The good: the past two days have been the best in recent memory.  I was depressed with how crappy I was feeling and couldn't see the light at the end of the tunnel, but now that I'm feeling a little less ill, it feels like I have a new lease on life.

    Upcoming milestones/appointments? We had our first ultrasound yesterday and got to see the little baby.  Visual confirmation makes it feel all the more real for me.

    QOTD/GTKY: What kind of car do you drive? Do you like it? Why or why not? I have a Ford Escape.  It's the first SUV I've ever had and I love it!

    Weight gain to date? 0. I've been all over with water weight and bloat. I thought I'd gained 3 lbs but it looks like I'm back down to my original weight this morning. water can add 5lbs to your daily weight so I don't fret as long as it stays within 5 lbs.

    What are your fitness goals during pregnancy? to stay healthy and not gain too much weight. I'm not going to set numbers because that is just asking for trouble and disappointment (personally). It may work for others but I just get frustrated and spend time watching the fluctuating scale and beating myself up instead of focusing on the end goal.

    What is your plan to stay on track? Pregnancy Yoga and Pilates, continue to calorie track, increase natural iron intake to avoid anemia, staying active as long as possible.

    So far.... the good? the bad? So far its been going pretty well, but that could be because I don't really have any desire to eat.

    Upcoming milestones/appointments? first OB appointment is 9/20!

    QOTD/GTKY: What kind of car do you drive? Do you like it? Why or why not? I drive a Honda Civic SI (4door). I love that it has a manual transmission and some real get up and go. I'm hoping it will be big enough for carting around my kid. I really don't want to drive a minivan or SUV.

  • How far along are you? probably a little over 6 weeks

    Weight gain to date? maybe a pound, maybe nothing

    What are your fitness goals during pregnancy? stay strong to help with labor and improve pp recovery.  i'm not too concerned with how much i'll gain, but it'd be nice if i stayed in the average range.

    What is your plan to stay on track? continue to eat healthy... run/jog as long as it's comfortable... walk if need be... strength train.  I'd like to be active at least 5 days a week throughout the pregnancy.

    So far.... the good? the bad? good thing is, I've been able to maintain working out 5-6 days a week and I haven't needed to dial down any weights.  Right now, I'm lucky enough to not be stricken with sickness and my fatigue is manageable.  Bad, I've had to slow down my runs a bit and I'm not pushing my intensity so hard on my HIIT strength training workouts.

    Upcoming milestones/appointments? Friday is my first U/S.  I'll ask my midwife what she thinks about hiking a 14er that weekend, but the elevation and thin air makes me nervous.

    **Check-in suggestion - One question we could ask is how did you do last week?  How many hours did you work out? How many days were you able to get in a workout?  How many miles did you run?**

  • Hi everyone I'm Dana this is baby number two for me I'm 7w4d along. I'm not sure how much I've gained so far 2 weeks ago it was 2.5 lbs. Not really planning on too much fitness just walking I guess. So far the good is I'm pregnant after 14 years. The bad I'm experiencing a little bit m/s this time around. I'm hoping that means girl. Good luck mommies.

    How far along are you? 5 weeks today, baby

    Weight gain to date? Nada

    What are your fitness goals during pregnancy? Continuing to chase around my toddler

    What is your plan to stay on track? The toddler won't stop moving, so I likely won't have no choice. Weight gain-wise, it really wasn't an issue during my last pregnancy, so I'm not worrying about it this time around. 

    So far.... the good? the bad? Nothing bad so far other than very mild nausea... but I don't mind because it lets me know things are still going well. The good - my boobs are bigger. Even DH has noticed ;) 

    Upcoming milestones/appointments? Our first appointment with our midwives is Sept' 11th, and I'm going to get a dating ultrasound in the next week or two, so that's super exciting. 

    QOTD/GTKY: What kind of car do you drive? Do you like it? Why or why not? We have a '02 Honda CRV, and I luuuuurv it. Fun to drive, tons of room without feeling like an uncool family style vehicle, and I like the style/design of it.

  • Oh I love this! I won't lie, I will have "cheats" and more so than before when I don't feel well and I just want carbs (and not natural carbs), but some days it's survival. Intro? I'm a SAHM and photographer (professionally, not a good camera set on auto). Married over 8 years, my kids are 7 and 5 years and we are kind of starting over but decided to have a third! I just got into running this past spring, and the typical strength exercises and weights. A little yoga here and there.

    How far along are you? 7 weeks tomorrow

    Weight gain to date? 6 pounds but weighed after i ate so I'll have to update that friday. (a couple days ago it was 3 pounds less first thing in the morning)

    What are your fitness goals during pregnancy? to maintain if not build some muscle since i had been slacking on that, and I just mean by more squats, push ups, blah blah blah

    What is your plan to stay on track? Eat clean when I can, cardio at least 4 times per week and strength at least 3 times per week.

    So far.... the good? the bad? The good is I can still walk most days, sometimes run. the bad? some days i am nauseous and just want carbs, and IMO that's ok right now. I'll make up for that later and I try to make up for it when I am feeling good.

    Upcoming milestones/appointments? first appointment to be determined so that and u/s.

    QOTD/GTKY: What kind of car do you drive? Do you like it? Why or why not? grand am. it's ok but we're looking into a mini-van since this is #3 and sports will start soon for our older two.

    Weight gain to date? Haven't weighed myself yet

    What are your fitness goals during pregnancy? Really I just want it to be better than last pregnancy. I started with elliptical and weights but had to switch to swimming because of pelvic dysfunction and I gained an unbelievable amount of weight. 

    What is your plan to stay on track? I'm taking up pregnancy yoga and chasing a toddler. Trying high fiber foods. 

    So far.... the good? the bad? I have a cold on top of morning sickness and tiredness. Terrified of gaining weight like I did last time. My body swelled up like a balloon at the end and I was miserable. 


    QOTD/GTKY: What kind of car do you drive? Do you like it? Why or why not?
    Acura TL, it's old and I'm wanting something that will fit two car seats now!

  • How far along are you? 4 weeks and some days.

    Weight gain to date? None.

    What are your fitness goals during pregnancy? Just to walk everyday; it's also good for DD.

    What is your plan to stay on track? Don't have one, I just do it to keep from going nuts.

    So far.... the good? the bad? The good: I'm not completely worthless from fatigue yet. The bad: the nausea is definitely here sooner than last time, and it is more intense.

    Upcoming milestones/appointments? I have an appointment with the midwife in 3.5 weeks.

    QOTD/GTKY: What kind of car do you drive? Do you like it? Why or why not? '05 Chevy Cavalier. I hate it, because it's a 2 door, and a total PITA as far as a car seat is concerned. I can only imagine how much more so it'll be with two car seats. But, with expenses are what they are at the moment, a new (to me) vehicle will wait. Won't be a long wait, but it'll be a wait.

    Weight gain to date? 3-5lbs

    What are your fitness goals during pregnancy? eat clean, continue weight training and cardio to maintain muscle and stamina. 

    What is your plan to stay on track? meal prep for the week on Sundays. Bootcamp 3x/week, walk 4-5 night/week, jog/run 2-3 times per week.

    So far.... the good? the bad? I haven't really had to tone down my workouts yet. Sure, I'm exhausted, but I feel like my afternoon nap is well-earned if I go to the gym in the am. My trainer encouraged me to continue with my workouts and adapt them based on how I feel.The bad: fatigue, food just doesn't sound good expect for junk, but I don't want to be fueling my body with empty calories either. It is hard to get more protein in.

    Upcoming milestones/appointments? 8w tomorrow! Next midwife appointment is Sept. 16

    QOTD/GTKY: What kind of car do you drive? Do you like it? Why or why not? I just bought a GMC Terrain two weeks before we found out. My Escape was totaled in an accident in mid July. The Terrain has a rear seat that slides back and forth, LATCH hooks for a carseat, lumbar support, decent storage in the back  and a rearview camera.

    Glad to see so many of you check-in! We are all gonna be some sexy-fit pregnant ladies! :)

     

    @sandurnba18 : it's so great when you have a supportive partner! GL at your appointment on Thursday!

    @jgallegos: Ugh, every symptom? Not fair! Hopefully things turn around soon for you, the worst is supposed to happen between 6-8 weeks. How was the new OB? A non-creep I hope! :)

    @kali55 : Yay for a new lease on life AND seeing your bean all in the same week! Winning.

    @playingonadream  : I hope you get your appetite back soon. Good philosophy on weight gain!

    @mdarmetko : I hear you on the “slower runs” part. I just keep telling myself that a slow run is better than no run! Good suggestions for future check-ins, thank you!

    @blahswife : Pregnant after 14 years; that’s awesome! Good for you. I’m hoping for a girl this time around too!

    @joyfullyfound : Chasing a toddler is definitely an exercise!

    @NicoleAnne416 : I think eating clean is the best plan; hopefully we can remember this philosophy when the cravings really hit!
