How would you see it? Measuring ahead.

Hey guys, I haven't posted a whole lot on here...sorry. But I am a daily creeper...I mean, lurker. :) This is so not a life altering question, but more of a WWYD. We had an early gender scan yesterday (sweet healthy boy in there!) and I am measuring 5 days ahead. Tech said its normal, but a question for you STMs especially who have been down this road already before...would you still stick with your original estimated due date or consider yourself to have a new due date? I will ask my midwife at my next appt, but I'm curious what you guys think.

  • Usually stick with your original as long as its not a huge gap one way or the other.. The baby will fluctuate a lot throughout the pregnancy as far as how many days it is measuring behind or ahead

  • growth fluctuates... if it didn't, all newborns would weigh the same :)

  • Thanks, guys. I figured at this point in the game, it wasn't a big deal to be a few days off. @ziggy903 huge "duh" moment right there. Perfect way to describe it. :)

  • @madisonpenny smart lady. Why didn't I think of that?

  • My DS was always measuring 2-3 weeks ahead. They never changed my due date. This little girl is measuring about a week ahead and they have stuck with my original due date.

  • I laugh at due dates...I think it's a great estimate as to a time it might come to an end...but I don't know anyone, unless planned csection or induced, actually delivered on said date.

  • My son is measuring 1 week ahead but I know the day that I conceived so I know that my due date is accurate. The baby measuring ahead doesn't necessarily mean that you conceived earlier.

  • I measured way ahead my whole pregnancy with my daughter, and went into labor naturally and delivered on my due date.  She was a good sized baby (8 lbs 9 oz), and I am a small person, but we had a quick and relatively easy delivery.

  • I keep my first due date, even though I always measure ahead in every pregnancy. However, I know when I ovulate. Usually if the due date is a week plus difference a dr. will change it.  I like to keep the latest due date possible to avoid inductions.

  • With my kids I always measured 2 weeks ahead at my 20 weeks scans, but my ob never changed a due date.

  • I'm a FTM, but I measured a full week ahead at my NT scan (13 weeks).  The doc said she's not going to change my EDD because LO measured right on schedule at my 7 week u/s.  Sure enough, I had an elective u/s on Saturday at 16 weeks and baby was right on track.
  • Go with the later date. Doctors will be in less of a rush to induce you when baby isn't ready to come out yet.
My due date is a week behind how far I am, so my midwife didn't change it, puts less pressure on us to have a baby by this certain day.
