Working Moms

Do you wear blazers for casual wear or work?

My birthday is coming up and my mom said she wanted ideas for what to buy me and I thought a nice blazer might be a good idea.  I was thinking of going for a navy blue?  Do you wear them?  I wanted something I could wear for date night or something as well but would obviously work in a business setting.  Do you have one and if so how do you wear/style it?  I don't wear black often at all, and I figured navy would work best because I can already picture at least three outfits for different occasions.  1.)  I could wear it with a silk green and navy patterned dress I have for a work party or dinner if necessary;  2.)  Or with khaki slacks and a nice blouse or simple blouse and statement jewelry;  3.)  and also wear it for non-work purposes with a fun blouse and jeans and heels for date night with H!

Just curious if I am thinking along the right lines.  I have a black suit and a brown suit and both of course have a matching jacket but they aren't something I can wear like I'm imagining above.  Thanks!!!  And links/brands or even PIP would be appreciated!  Thanks!

  • I would be thrilled to wear them that often soI will tell her to buy that if she wants! The one I am eyeing is navy blue and will be a cotton blend so definitely more casual!

  • I have to wear one all the time for work but I have a few that I use for a casual outfit too. I like the dress and blazer combo. I also like a blazer with sleeves I can fold up to 3/4 length for a less formal look. Some have a cute lining that shows when you do this.

  • i do both! Jcrew has some great versatile blazers (the outlet sellls them as well) ... sleeves down more formal/worky...sleeves rolled up with the liner showing-->more sporty/fun for a night out!
  • I'm more of a cardigan girl. I have a couple light weight blazers and never wear them. After reading the article @financialdiva found they may need to be reintroduced into my wardrobe. I like the look paired with jeans.

I don't wear blazers for casual purposes.  I only wear them to work or church.  For casual wear, I like to wear more sweaters, usually cardigan style.  What you're describing though sounds nice.

  • I wear cardigans all the time, but thought this would be a fun new piece to fit into my wardrobe.  I will check out those links too -  thanks you!!!

  • I wear blazers for work and casual. I'm curvier (read: large bust) and love Victoria's Secret clothes. They're stretchier which makes them fit curves better and also makes them really comfortable.
  • I have a couple blazers and love them.  My favorite right now is a bright coral orange knit blazer.  Surprisingly it goes with almost everything.  I love how it makes my outfits a little more dressed up, so I feel good about wearing it with jeans to work, or over a sundress to church.  I am a big fan.

I love this look! I think gray would also be pretty. ETA - I like the idea of sleeves you can push up. It makes it less formal.
