Ultrasounds....

I know alot of have either had one or are having one soon!! Do you know what kind are you having? I was told on the phone when I booked my appointment that mine will be a vaginal ultrasound. Never heard of that but googled it. I thought I would be getting a more traditional one with the gu on the tummy. Anyway, just seeing if others have had this and what I can expect for my appointment on Wed (counting down the hours!!)

Do we need to have full bladders still??

I have mine in a 1.5 weeks and they told me to drink 4 glasses of water 2 hours before hand. I'm going to assume its an abdominal and I have no idea how I'm gonna hold it all in for 2 hours!

Transvaginal ultrasounds don't require a full bladder, just pelvic ones. They get a much clearer picture this early in pregnancy.

I had an abdominal ultrasound at 7w5d and they'd just made me pee in a cup beforehand, so no full bladder either. Baby was there loud and clear.

It really depends on the equipment, some clinics/hospitals use a small portable ultrasound and that is not sensitive enough. If they have an ultrasound room you're probably fine with an abdominal.

I had transvaginal u/s at 6, 7, and 8 wks. We did ivf and that is their policy. No you don't need a full bladder. I was able to hear the heartbeat at each u/s.
GL it's not bad at all.

Id prefer the vaginal bc you can see everything better! Good luck!

I always had transvaginal ones until my 12w mark. That was the first on the belly. The baby is much easier to see with the vaginal probe before then.

It's not bad at all, trust me I've had quite a few

it's like a dildo cam (complete with condom). I refer to it as the vaginal probe to my DH. As PP's said they'll make you empty your bladder before hand, it's really uncomfortable if its full.

I had mine at 6w1d and was surprised until other ladies also had one. With my son 14 years ago all of my ultrasounds were abdominal even the early ones.

I had T/V ultrasounds at 5w4d, 6w5d, and 7w5d. I had IUI, and my RE's office does the same for all their patients. I see my OB for the first time tomorrow at 8w5d and I'm not sure if it will be abdominal or T/V, although they didn't tell me to fill my bladder.

All u/s I've had until the 12 week mark have been transvaginal.
