Cloth Diapering

Bum Genius Leaking Tags

I've only been cloth diapering for a month and my BGs are damp on the side tag when I'm changing my son. I change every 2-3 hours and they are not soaked through. He's only 2 months old. I've been using All small and mighty free and clear and have not dried them in the dryer. Has this happened to anyone else? I can't imagine I need to increase the rise, as they would hit way above his belly button, but I'm willing to try anything.

  • Give them 20 minutes on high in the dryer to seal the PUL. Just once.

  • I agree with token.  It's been a while since mine was that little... is every 2-3 hours frequent enough for a baby that little?  I swear when mine was tiny we were changing closing to every 1-2 hours.  Maybe we just had a frequent wetter.  Is that a thing?

  • Which insert are you using? The only time my pockets wick through stitching is if they're really wet, so you may need to add more absorbency

  • we changed crazily at that stage too (could it be two months ago already?!?)  We were closer to the 1-2 hours also.

But, the BG's leaking near the tag area seems to be common...I second into the dryer on high for 20 minutes

  • You guys wouldn't wake up to change, would you? If he's napping, I'll change when he wakes up, but if he's awake, I change every two. I'm using the larger insert and just got some hemp doubles to use at night, just need to get them prepped.

  • I don't wake when sleeping, but when awake he needs to be changed closer to every hour than two hours. They pee pretty often!

  • Also make sure you are tucking in the "wings" underneath where you snap. Those can wick moisture out.
