Baby wearing and young toddler

I'm looking for stories of experience with this. If you are baby wearing what happens when you need to pick up the older child? Just sling them on your hip out of the way of the younger kid? Or is it even possible. I have a Beco Butterfly with a newborn insert and I'd like to be able to wear #2 around a lot, but wondering about logistics like lifting DD into a grocery cart or getting her in and out of a stroller while baby wearing.     I baby wear DS in a Moby and have no problem picking up DD. I wouldn't carry her that way for long periods, but it isn't any more awkward than picking her up while pregnant. That said, I'm only 8 days into this, so I don't know how things will change as DS gets older and I use different positions in the Moby and bring out the Ergo.
    Mommy to N (3), J (2), and C (10 months). LO4 is due in mid-September.

    Yup, just like you said.. I have to do a lot of one-handed lifting of DS1 (he's 24lbs and 13 months), but I just put him on one side so I don't squish my little guy.  I've only done a rebozo carry and a front cross carry with DS2, but in both of those I've had no problems lifting DS1 to my hip. Good luck! Babywearing is a life saver with 2 so close in age!!

    I wore #2 ALL the time and mine are 16 months apart.

    Like you said, when your older child needs to be picked up, you do it away from your body, on your hip, etc. Your toddler will get used to not being picked up as much pretty quickly!

    I actually stopped picking up/carrying DS so much before DD was born in anticipation of this which did help.

    Yeah I've just picked up my toddler when needed, it can be a little awkward but it's doable if you need to!

    BFP 5/21/10, Missed m/c 7/5/10 at 11w3d (baby measured 7wks), D&C 7/7/10

    Aug/Sept 2010 - CD3&10 b/w & u/s, genetic testing, SA, HSG, & Lap/Hyst to remove septum

    12/09/10 BFP -- 7/05/11 DS born at 33w5d. Came home after 23d in NICU at 37w0d

    June 2012 - TTC #2! -- 10/05/12 BFP --  5/23/13 DS2 born at 37w1d! Yay full term!

    Surprise BFP 6/25/14 LO#3 due Feb2015!

    I have the beco butterfly as well and I love it! It's can be awkward picking up my 2 year old but I only do it if I'm putting her in a cart or stroller or seat. So it's not so bad... You get used to it. I don't ever hold her just for the sake of holding her when I have the carrier on. That would be way too much weight for me to hold at once.
