By newborn hold do you mean legs in? You can do the regular "hug hold" as moby calls it from the get-go. You can also try front wrap cross carry with the moby which I think works better as baby gets heavier as you can tighten it better. Really don't care for the other moby holds and don't teach them.
My DD was always a little peanut so she was in the moby until she was about 14 months old. I still tucked in her legs sometimes but as she got longer, I let them out. When she was too big, I transitioned to the boba, and I still really like it. I've heard great things about the ergo too.
