LO fighting sleep...Help!

For the past few nights, LO has been fighting sleep. It starts around 8-9 o clock to where she just starts crying and won't stop. She's in her pjs, clean diaper, fed, burped etc and it still happens. Any suggestions?? Does bathing every night help soothe them? LO is 9 weeks.

  • Do you swaddle? Even if you haven't in the past you might try that. Does she like baths? DS loves them so he's had one every night since like 3 or 4 weeks. If he's cranky it helps him calm down, then when we put lotion on we massage him a little bit and that helps. So maybe you can try that? Also try white noise if you haven't already. When DS really gets going making a shhhh sound right in his ear (pretty loudly) will help soothe him. Good luck!

  • We do swaddle. I think we are going to tr y bathing every night and see if that helps. I usually massage lotion on after bath. Will try the shhhh sound, thanks!

  • Try the 5 S's: swaddle, side lying, sucking, shushing, swaying. Swaddle baby, give a paci, turn them on their side (belly to belly with you) and shush in their ear as you sway from side to side. That's the magic trick from Happiest Baby on the Block

We love the 5 S's in our home!

  • I was just literally going to post about this very thing! My little guy has been doing this for about a week and he does it several times a day. It's probably the worst from around 7-9:30 when he goes to bed. We have a nightly bath, which calms him, but he always hates the getting dressed part. I even warm his towel in the dryer while bathing him. We rock, walk, shush, try a paci, try the swing, etc. Sometimes if I walk and rock, while holding him on his side and while holding in his paci- he can't keep it in himself- he will settle down. Otherwise, it's a constant struggle until he just wears himself out. He will act hungry but per our pediatrician we don't need to feed him more bc of his reflux. He takes 4 oz every 3 hours. I really thought he was too young for fighting his sleep so badly, but that's exactly what is going on! He hates his arms swaddled and will wake himself up struggling to get out. Hoping to hear some other ideas from the group!!

Definitely try the bath and the 5 S's. Letting E top off and nurse for just 10 minutes before bed during a really rough evening has her STTN going on 8 hours and counting. This is probably a no no but I hold her until she is asleep after nursing before putting her in the PNP and she is out for hours.

Or maybe she is over tired and needs to go to bed earlier?

I noticed when I put him to bed earlier he wasn't fussy. So we skipped the crying etc. LO just might be really tired. We moved bedtime from 10 to 8 bc of this.
