High-Risk Pregnancy

# of c-sections = high risk

Is there anyone high-risk that is high-risk due to # of C-sections they have had? I am 4 weeks pregnant and this will be my 6th section.

I have had 5 (1998,2002,2003,2005,2008)    (I have a son from a previous relationship when I was very young who was adopted). I am trying to find other women who have had a lot of c-sections and what their experiences have been... here's a little about mine (maybe someone can relate?):

#1 - 1998 - induced labor due to preeclampsia, labored for 12hrs, delivered via emergency c-section (when ds starting coming out arm first)

#2 - 2002 - elective repeat, no complications

#3 - 2003 - elective repeat, no complications, OB said uterus was a little thin (#2 & #3 were only 18 months apart)

#4 - 2005 - diagnosed with complete previa & placenta percreta and hospitalized from 31 weeks to 1 week post op (delivered at 35.5 weeks) - I was delivered in the trauma OR under general anethesia (this is a LONG story so I will make it short) - ended up being misdiagnosed and only had placenta previa (I don't mean that lightly, previa is still scary).  I did bleed a lot after surgery, but they tore my insides apart with this c-sec, I literally felt like someone went inside my body and beat me violently after this section...never had that feeling before.

#5 - 2008 - elective repeat - no complications other than the surgeon knicking my bladder due to scar tissue (had a catheter for 2 weeks post op).  I did have a classical incision with this one, all my others were lower transverse.  I assume I have the classical incision inside as well, but not 100% positive, can only see the outside, lol.  I did not have my tubes tied because my surgery took too long and I adamently refused general anethesia b/c of my experience with sec #4.

Please feel free to message me if you are on bedrest with previa too, I know how hard it is.  I also volunteered with Sidelines a few years ago.

Re: # of c-sections = high risk

  • Our hospital considers a 5th and any other subsequent c sections high risk because of scar tissue and changes to the anatomy etc
We perform all those cesareans in our trauma emergency OR with an extra team on hand, a general surgeon on standby, and we make sure to have at least 2 units of blood readily available!

  • Wow, really? I had #5 in the OB operating room with just my perinatologist and an assistant. It was very calm and not treated as a matter of life or death. It was wonderful compared to #4. I don't ever want to be inside a trauma OR ever again. :-/
  • Are you in Boca Raton (I just noticed that on your u/s pic)?  I am over near Tampa.  :-)
  • Yes Boca area!!! Tampa/St Pete Area is prob my favorite parts of FL. Do you go to Tampa General?
