Straining w/BM's

Does anyone get light pink discharge after straining for a BM? I am assuming it's due to some constipation/straining becuase this has only happened to me when I was trying for a BM.

I was seen for spotting at 7 weeks...and utlrasound was fine. This did not happen with my son...

Re: Straining w/BM's

  • I would suggest picking up some fiber gummies. They got me through some nasty constipation while pregnant with DS1.

  • Yes it can happen. This is the ugly truth, but the beginning of hemorrhoids for alot of ladies. Sometimes anal bleeding can occur when straining. I have had IBS my whole life and this pregnancy has made it soo much worse. It is not something to be alarmed about, but try not to strain to much and relax. Trust me, hemorrhoids are not fun! Ask your dr though cause I am not a expert. :(

  • Where is it coming from?  If it's anal bleeding, straining can definitely cause it and just the mere fact that you're having a difficult BM, you can have a small fissure that bleeds (basicaly a small cut).  If it is vaginal bleeding, it could also come from straining....my doctor didn't agree, but I (and other people I've heard from) believe if you have a sensitive cervix, straining with a BM could cause a burst blood vessel on your cervix (I get them on my face is I vomit too hard so it seems like a plausible theory to me).  I had three spotting episodes last pregnancy and they all followed straining from a difficult BM.

  • It happened to me with DD. Every time I had a BM I would bleed...it didn't matter if I strained or not. Apparently my capillaries are near the surface on my cervix and that what will cause the bleeding. It happened my whole first tri. Once the cervix hardened on the second tri I didn't bleed anymore. I would seriously bleed every other day. My Dr. said it was very normal in my situation and not to worry about it since my cervix was closed and the bleeding was only coming from the outside.

Still scary though. Sorry you have to go through that...it really does suck.

  • Yep.. I'm in the same boat. I've had issues with constipation for years, and it seems like no matter what I do, I go DAYS without having a BM. I've adjusted my diet, fiber, stool softeners, enemas.. I've done it all. It SUCKS. What I've found that helps the most is drinking a TON of water, a bowl of raisin bran every day, and some walking/exercise. I'm still having some issues though now that I'm pregnant, so I may call my doc and ask him about Colace or something.

I feel your pain, though. Miserable.

  • I always bleed slightly with any large BM- strain or no strain- but that's because I have a hemorrhoid .
  • Yes, it was vaginal. Nurse said its totally normal with constipation....told me to pick up some OTC stool softeners. Ohh goodie :)

  • Ask your doctor about fiber and stool softeners. The last thing you want is hemroids. I've had them since middle school and pregnancy had made it sooooo much worse. You definitely don't wanna see a ton of fresh blood in the toilet after a BM. It's scary and kind of dizzying. But hemroids are preventable and treatable (except for awesome people like me who get the lucky genes) so be sure to try to take care of it now before it gets bad!
  • I think Ive asked this question before. I too have vaginal bleeding after straining from a bm. It would only be when I wiped though. My doctor advised me to increase my fiber intake and drink lots of water. some expecting mommies have a weaker cervix therefor when straining there is a bit of blood. I would definitely recommend increasing your fiber Intake and drinking lots if water. Although I would still check with your doctor to let him or her know what is going on.
