How staight are LOs teeth?

LO finally has her top four teeth coming through. However, they look crooked and are not lined up. I figure it is no big deal because they are just baby teeth but my H is freaking out. He wants to do something drastic like take away the paci. I am not on board with his idea at all. I like my sleep! So I am curious how straight are your LOs teeth?

  • I voted straight w/paci but replace paci with fingers. FWIW hers have straightened out since coming in.

  • Anna has a huuuuuuge gap between her top two. My husband also has gap teeth and he is freaking out that "she has my teeth, oh noes!". I'm like CTFD. We can get her braces.

Her teeth are pretty straight, and she is a thumbsucker.

That is great.  LOs are only half/quarter of the way out so maybe they will straighten up some.
  • @aylafsu88 I've also read that crooked baby teeth do not indicate crooked adult teeth.

K has a major gap between the front 2 and the bottom 2 are squished really close together. We use a paci for sleeping and meltdowns and I can't imagine letting go of it right now.
Same here.  The paci is a life saver is certian situations.  My H seems to think it would be easy to get rid of it but he doesn't have to deal with the melt downs and night wakings as much as I do!
  • Well DS uses a paci to sleep and has crooked teeth and gaps on the top teeth. DD does not use a paci and has straight, even teeth. But honestly I think it's more genetics than the paci use. DS's top teeth look uneven in size right now so hopefully they will look a bit more straight once they grow out fully.

I have been told a gap, don't know what size, is good. It gives room when the other teeth come and it pushes them together. If there isn't a slight gap when the others come in and push them together they get all crazy.
I was told the same thing!
That is interesting.  I keep telling my H to calm down but he is insanely worked up about it already.
  • My pedi sais it takes a while for them to get in their  final position. Baby teeth are usually pretty straight when they are fully adjusted. Kellen's aren't exactly crooked right now, but he has a gap in his top teeth that will most likely go away as he gets more teeth. He does use a paci at night and in the car.

  • From what I understand, their baby teeth are usually gapped somewhat on top until all the teeth come in and they squeeze together.  This might look crooked to some, but it's just the spaces.  Their adult teeth will come in totally different and you can't really tell if they will be crooked until then.

  • I don't think the baby teeth positioning has any bearing on adult teeth. Also, they'll straighten out once LO gets more teeth.
