High-Risk Pregnancy

Sugar high

So I had my baby 6 days ago and haven't tested my sugar until today. I have to test for a couple weeks. I just tested after breakfast and had a high number. Is it normal to have high blood sugar still or how soon does the GD leave? I know there's a possibility that I could have diabetes, but didn't know if it took a while for hormones to go back to normal.

Re: Sugar high

  • What was your number? The cut offs/guidelines for diabetics who aren't pregnant are higher than those for GD, so you could be in the normal range even if it was high based on your GD guidelines.

I would not worry about that number at all. My mom is Type 2, and if I remember right she shoots to be about 160, though I can't remember if that is 1hr or 2hrs after.

GD patients have stricter guidelines/cut offs than a regular diabetic patient because of the impact on the baby. Obviously non-pregnant people don't have that concern :)

    Good to know, thanks! :)
