NPR: Could stab the pediatrician's office staff

Just hauled two cranky kiddos to their pediatrician for their well check ups (3 y/o and 15 m/o) which is a 45 minute drive and smack dab in the middle of nap time.

I triple checked my appointment card, the reminder in my phone, AND listened to the voicemail they left me Thursday reminding me of today's appointment because I was pissed I went with a 1:30 appointment.

I get up here and the lady tells me their appointment is Wednesday, not today, and their pediatrician isn't even in the office today.

So. Fucking. Pissed.

  • Oh no! That's THE WORST.

  • So wait, they screwed up but didn't try to accommodate you? That sucks. I'm sorry.

She acted like it was my error. Pretty sure it's not even a hormonal reaction if I switch practices now.

  • Oh, I would have been BEYOND mad.  I'm so sorry that happened to you!  I would definitely bring it up to the ped when you see him, because the mistake sucks, but her being rude about it isn't acceptable.

  • I would have played the message for her! Did you have the card to show her or anything?
  • I'm getting pissed that my avatar won't stick! I change it over and over but this dude with the baby keeps showing up! :)
  • Yeah, last year I took a half-day off work to take my husband to his first post-knee-surgery physical therapy appointment (which we had booked probably 6 weeks in advance, and I got cleared with my boss), just to show up and be told that the doctor had to cancel because it was his kid's first day of school (like, 4th grade or something, not kindergarten).  They swore they emailed us the week before, and I was like, "What email?" and they checked and were like, "Oh, um, it appears we don't have an email on file for you yet...."

So yeah, I packed up my post-op husband for a 45-minute long bumpy car ride, missed work, and they didn't even see us because the doctor took off for his 9-year-old's first day of 4th grade??? WTF.

Unfortunately I had already deleted the VM and left the appointment card on my kitchen table ::hangs head in shame

She really wasn't rude about it but when I told her my appt card said today and so did the VM they left me Thursday she just replied with, "well she's not even in the office today," like I had the wrong date.

  • Hmmmm. She's lying obvs. I used to work in a doctor's office and when the girls at the desk screwed up they should cover for each other that way (mostly because the owner was a psychotic who would throw a model eye at us when we screwed up). So not an excuse though!

That's what I would have done, too!

If it was the first incident/issue ever, I might not switch, but if there's other stuff I probably would. Plus, 45 minutes away? That's crazy to me.

I live in rural KY and Lexington is 30-45 min away. DH and I lived there in college and then moved over here. It's a commute and we drive it every day. My midwife is there (as is the hospital I deliver in), we both work there, and we don't have an actual pediatrician in the town I live in so my kids go to the doctor there as well.

I'm probably not switching. I really like the pediatrician and she has seen both kids since they were like 12 hours old in the hospital. But I'm probably calling to clarify my appointments before I drag the kids up there again for the next few that get scheduled. Grrr.
