2 feedings: solids WWYD

My LO will be 5 months in 4 days and she is ready to start eating solids twice a day now.

She started solids at 4 months and is a pro now. She has had most of the starter fruits and veggies now. All she has left is green beans to try.

For those who feed twice a day, morning an evening for us, what did you feed them?

I currently mix in homemade baby purees with her Gerber oatmeal cereal, about a tablespoon, and one frozen cube, about an ounce, of either a fruit or veggie.

Would you suggest doing only oatmeal in the morning? Then a fruit or veggie at night? Or opposite?

Or oatmeal with a fruit and veggie at night?

I ask because she is still little and I worry about giving her too much of a variety each day.

Thoughts, suggestions, what do you do?

TIA

  • At the end of the day, food before one is just for fun. BM or formula is all they need. You could give them no solids for the first year if you wanted. So I don't think it matters what order you give them food

I know order doesn't really matter, but i am still curious what others do. I like to know reasons behind the method.

  • We do a fruit in the morning mixed with cereal and then a veg in the evening mixed with cereal, 1/2 a container each time.  Then the next day we switch it, veg and cereal in the morning, fruit and cereal in the evening.  So, he is finishing two jars in two days and having the same foods over two days so not too much switching around.

  • i did the same thing for both meals with my son. right now the concept of breakfast and dinner is foreign to them. i'd just do the same routine for both. i'd probably mix up the flavors from meal to meal, but i wouldn't worry about strictly fruit in the morning, veg in the evening

  • We have been doing oatmeal or fruit and oatmeal in the morning and veggie at night.  No real reason except that is how I eat. :)

There's no reason behind the methods, is the simple answer :)  Mostly people feed their kids in a similar fashion to themselves based on societal norms.  So a lot of people do cereal in the early part of the day with fruit and then a veggie in the evenings because that follows more of how an adult eats throughout the day.  But I've been known to eat mashed potatoes or a tuna sandwich for breakfast so I say to hell with it :)
