I'm not a teacher, nor do I have any kids in school...been out of regular school (not college) for 16 years (wow) and I STILL get that kind of sad feeling this time of year....I work year round so it doesn't affect me, but I guess you just never lose that "sunday night" feeling or the "back to school in the fall" feeling.

This sounds so crazy for schools to the starting at Labor Day. I grew up where we went the first of August and now they start the end of July. Everyone around here is now on the year round schedule but it seems like schools here started so long ago. If I were still in school I'd definitely be jealous of the later start.
My kids went back today-- DS1 started 10th grade, DS2 started 2nd grade, and DS3 went to daycare. I can't believe I have a 10th grader... it's extra sad because I officially can't help him with his math homework anymore, it's too hard for me. Time flies, I can't believe he's not a baby anymore. He'll be in college before LO4 is in PreK!
Where I am schools start the first week of September, but usually run until the end of June. My little girl starts preschool on the 5th and I'm heartbroken thinking she's old enough for that. She's four and about 30lbs, so just a tiny little thing and I keep feeling like I just got her home from the hospital. I'm emotional to begin with but being pregnant is making it worse.
I start classes on wed! Not so ready to go back, but luckily I'm only there two days a week this semester!
DH started last Tuesday, but since he's a band teacher, band camp (an all day affair) started the first week of August so it's kinda like he started several weeks ago.

Good luck and happy back to school to everyone! I love this time of year (although it is hard to give up summer). But I just love school supplies, and first day outfits, and all the excitement/nerves. Doomed/blessed to be a teacher I suppose. :-)
We started the sixth and it was rough, I ended up being way less prepared than usual. I just can't stay for hours like I need. My advice to teachers is to have lots of snacks every day and make prioritized to do lists. I really ought to take my own advice.
Ugh starting week three here. Can barely keep my eyes open to eat supper let alone bump, hence why I have been mia. 34 preschoolers wear me out! Good luck teachers and students
