midnight high sugar help

So last night I was up all night and miserable. I won't make you sit through the litany of symptoms, but suffice it to say, my OB's nurse said it sounded like my blood sugar was very high because I ate a cupcake at my baby shower. After looking up the symptoms, I agree that it was probably high glucose, but I hadn't thought to check it at the time so I can't confirm. I also realized that there was one other night that I had a few months ago that was similar to this. It was a little before I was diagnosed with GD, so I wasn't adjusting my diet or monitoring my glucose. But I had an extremely high-carb meal that night, so maybe this was the problem then also.

But my question is this.. Has anyone else had middle of the night high glucose numbers? What are some things I can do to fix this in the middle of the night if I experience it again?

Re: midnight high sugar help

  • the best thing you can do is something to get your blood pumping.  Mine was really high last night, and I went for a brisk 25 minutes walk around the neighborhood with DH.  Tested it again when I got back, and it came WAY down.  Not sure how feasible that is for you in the middle of the night, but if you can even just march in place for 20 mins in front of the TV or something that will get your heart rate up...   it works wonders for me every time.
