I have a Shark. Many of the reviews I read said that it performs just as well (or better than) a Dyson for the fraction of the cost. I spent about $178 on my Shark. I really like it. It has great suction, is easy to maneuver and clean, and looks sleek. I think it does a particularly good job on carpets. We have 3 pets so their fur gets stuck in the carpets a lot. From what I can tell, the Shark picks up the vast majority of it (compared to my old Eureka.... I hated that thing).

Kenmore canister. It's what my mom has always used (and many of hers lasted 10+ years) and what I have always had. I love love love mine. When I bought it, I also got the protection plan with Sears and every year I take it in to get serviced for free. They will even replace parts for free.
Ooo, good follow up question, how light are your vacuums? I need something lightweight due to just have hand surgery a few months ago,and ours is heavy and hard for me to use.
The Shark doesn't seem that heavy to me, but I couldn't tell you an actual number. If you search it on Amazon you'd probably be able to find out weights in the product details.

I have the shark navigator and LOVE it!!! It's sleek and light wt too. Very good suction and just as great as the dyson except costs way less!!! I spent about $150 for mine.
I have the purple dyson too. I don't think it's that heavy...definitely lighter than other vacuums I've had. And it maneuvers super easy. Definitely one vacuum that doesn't leave my back aching by the time I'm done.
I have a POS cheapo but it works. It's the second cheapest version Walmart has, no idea what brand. It was like 87$ or something. Bagless and pretty light. It gets up my pet hair and I have an indoor Husky that sheds the equivalent of an entire dog every day.
We have the purple animal dyson. Love it. Worth every penny. Had it about 5 years and works great.
This! Love my dyson
I have had my purple animal dyson for 8 years now and it is still going strong! I've never had any problems and it still works just a good as when it was brand new. I love it!!
