fenugreek

Trying to find something to increase my milk supply and have heard that fenugreek gives baby gas. Besides oatmeal, what else can I do?

  • Straight fenugreek didn't seem to bother me or baby with any gas. But now I'm taking Motherove More Milk Plus which has fenugreek and blessed thistle and I think it bloats me a bit and makes me gassy. I don't think it's affected LO though. I eat oatmeal just about everyday, but the Motherlove is the only thing that I've noticed make an impact on my supply. You could always try it and if it makes you or baby gassy, stop taking it. Check out kellymom. Lots of good info there.

  • Fenugreek and mothers milk tea didn't work for me but NA beer has. I went out boating the other day and had 5 real beers. That night, after not having drank for 5 hours I pumped and dumped and fed LO a bottle. 4 hours later I was so engorged I had to dream feed LO and STILL pumped 3oz to relieve pressure. The next day I still had to nurse her more often vc of how I felt!

  • Brewers yeast mixed in cookies, look up lactation cookies. They do the job for me. I make a batch every few weeks and DH loves em.

  • Fenugreek works best when used with blessed thistle, another herb. Fenugreek itself doesn't usually boost milk supply.

  • Second the lactation cookies. Brewers yeast, flax seed and old fashioned oats plus normal cookie dough ingredients. I make mine in a pie dish and cut little slivers throughout the day or cookie bars to bring to work. I tried mother something herbs from the LC and they did nothing. For fenugreek you need to take a ton like 3 pills 3 times a day

    I got fenugreek and blessed thistle. A friend had insane success with the fenugreek plus lactation cookies drinking 24oz of water with each dose of the herbs. I read the blessed thistle is bad for nursing mothers, so being as paranoid as I am, I skipped it. Cookies are working for now.

  • I have incredible look with avocados and papaya. I also recommend mothers milk tea, flax seed and brewers yeast, chia seeds, oatmeal and water. Lactation cookies are yummy and good! Hth!
