Total FTM Ques Re: HEAT

Tomorrow we have family (DH's) coming from out of town to go to the State Fair with us.
It is going to be around 96* with a heat index of 105*ish.
Now, I'm not overly thrilled with this temperature, but now add my baby into that mix, and I'm kinda nervous.
We're planning on going by 8am, before it gets too hot, and hopefully leaving by 2pm or so.
I'm planning on bringing a mist bottle and ice water for all of us, and we'll hit the indoor areas when possible.
I'm not really knowing if we should even go, because lets face it, that's SUPER hot, and I don't want any of us to get heat exhaustion, etc.
What would you do? Cancel it?  (We already have tickets)
Go and be careful?
I feel like it's a lose lose situation, but I'm just 100% concerned about Carter's well being in the heat.

  • I'm not a fair person, but I think you should go, stick to shady and air conditioned areas when you can and be willing to leave early if anyone starts feeling too hot. If I were going I would plan out the coolest (temp) areas and hit those.

  • Personnall? I probably wouldn't go for that long. We live in Az and that kind of heat is normal all summer. But I don't like being out in the heat unless there is a pool in the mix. Lots of water and misting will help you guys stay cool along with sunscreen but a couple cues Id watch if it was me in order to call it quits- fussy baby or if I felt like I was overheating. We did do a few outdoor things this summer but we started around 7 and usually ended around 10 or 11 depending on how hot the day was and how much sun we had gotten. Still had a couple hours of fun but prolonged time in the sun? Nah I poop out well before my boys do.

  • I would go and just stick to the shaded areas. We were outside the entire day on the 4th and it was 100 degrees. L stuck to the shade and pool. I just made sure she had plenty to drink and didn't act off (extra lethargic) was in just a onesie, and had a fan attached to her stroller. It worked out just fine. Just pay attention and have fun.

8-2 sounds like a long time but I haven't been to a fair in a long time. I would probably be planning more of a 8-12 trip so we would leave after eating lunch. Your plan sounds good, mister, water, stroller with shade, inside areas... You can bring a little insulated lunch bag with ice packs that he can hold/play with/nom on if he looks like he is getting hot. Paper towels to wet and put around the back of his neck.
