High-Risk Pregnancy

? For those who have been high risk w/ more the 1 pregnancy

Sorry to jump in this board. I wanted to know of anyone that was high risk with their first ended up here the second time around. I only ask because I'm pregnant for the second time and I'm worried I'm going to be high risk again and im about to take a new job. Last time I had a placenta abruption the. Preeclampsia set in so I was on bedrest for 5 weeks before having an emergency c-section. I'm just wondering if that makes me high risk this time around or it's all unknown. I would hate to start a new job an be without pay etc. Opinions welcomed! Thank you!

Re: ? For those who have been high risk w/ more the 1 pregnancy

  • I was high risk with my first.  I had low fluid and high bp, though I was not diagosed with pre-e.

This pregnancy I have been having PTL and a tiny bit of high bp.    From what my OB told me,

I asked my OB if because I had those two things if they would come back or I had a higher chance of them coming back in this pregnancy.   Low fluid, no.  High bp, maybe.

I know you know this, but the best thing to do is ask your OB.

  • I know thank you. Haven't asked OB yet since I haven't been released from shady grove yet and since they don't deal with later on in pregnancy I didn't think they would have an answer. But ill still ask tomorrow at my apt.

  • I was high risk both pregnancies for unrelated reasons. The first time I had GD and low fluid levels. The second was twins, PTL, high fluid levels, and suspected GD. Some things carry a greater chance of reoccurrence, others don't. Hope you get some answers at your appointment!

  • OP, it doesn't automatically make you high risk but you definitely have a chance of preeclampsia again. You'll be monitored as usual but your OB won't hesitate to put you on bedrest if something looks concerning. You may want to plan accordingly

  • Anybody know the answer to this same question, but with just the abruption (no preeclampsia)? This is my first pregnancy (abruption at 30 weeks, now on modified bed rest) and we're wondering if this changes our plans about trying for a second baby...

  • I've been wondering this my entire pregnancy... I had a very easy, complication-free first pregnancy. Then my second pregnancy was very difficult - irritable uterus and preterm labor on and off for a month, giving birth, luckily, at 37 weeks after being on modified bed rest for that last month.

I've been so nervous this whole pregnancy, but until this past weekend, I had had no real reason to worry. Then I woke up at 31wk6d with painful contractions every 3 minutes. Preterm labor again.

They don't know what caused it the first time, so they said there was no reason to believe it would happen again, but my doctor had been acting cautiously... Now preterm labor and modified bed rest again. Causes? Who knows. Related to my second pregnancy? Again, no answers...

  • I was high risk last pregnancy for pre-e at 30 weeks and ended up having an emergency c-section at 35 weeks.  This time I was fine until I had a partial placental abruption at 13 weeks.  I was then put on bed rest for about 5 weeks.  I am now 24 weeks and doing fine with no issues other than a breech baby.  But that could be due to the Anterior Placenta or the abruption.

  • Arielle17 & Kkkarats03- Just curious..do you both work full time or full time mom? I only ask because I am super nervous about work this time around if bedrest happens again. I am not sure how understanding my company will be with weeks of bedrest before birth if it happens. They are already having me train someone to take over which freaks me out since in the 5 years i have worked here I have never had back up..and now I have two people working my job. Scares me I could be let go just because they know there is a chance. I know this is all just worry because I won't know anything until I go to my OB on monday. I have already had someone question if I was highrisk at work which makes me nervous why anyone is asking. Not to mention I only told my close friends at work. Not management.

Yes, both of my pregnancies have been considered high risk. I had GD and hypertension with DS. I was monitored for pre-e. Gained 65lbs due to extreme swelling. Had emergency csection due to placental abruption. 2nd pregnancy had low progesterone due to complications with first pregnancy. Developed GD at 12 weeks. But overall the pregnancy has been easier.
  • Asmom2011 I'm glad your having a better pregnancy this time around minus the gd!

I work close to FT (30-35hrs/week) managing finance and office operations for a small business. My boss held my job though I was only on bed rest for this most recent pregnancy. My OB cleared me to work from home up to 2hrs/day if I wasn't stressed so my boss let me do whatever I felt up to since I had no back up at the office and it helped her out. I'm really grateful for her understanding as we're too small for FMLA so she's done this entirely out of the goodness of her heart. Not everyone is that generous, but hopefully your boss will try to work with you and hopefully you can avoid the whole bed rest thing. Best wishes!
