3rd b day ideas!

Looking for some new ideas for my little mans 3rd b day. We have a kitchen set, a few outdoor toys, scooter/jeep, water table. 
I plan on getting him a work bench but people are asking for ideas and i really dont have any. He's into trucks, cars and trains but has so many already. 
Ive said gift cards so i can hold on to them and get them as he "needs/wants" something but most people hate giving g/c/s as a gift. I also mentioned a few board games for down the road but im out of ideas! 

Is there anything that really keeps your toddlers attention?

    Art supplies. Play doh, finger paint, crayons/markers and coloring books/paper, letter/alphabet activity books, scissors, glue, construction paper. For DD1's 3rd bday we got her an easel that is a chalkboard on one side and dry erase/magenetic on the other, with clips to hold paper for coloring/painting. DD1 would do "projects" all day long if she could.

    I like the B brand of toys that you can find at Target and some other popular stores. For ex. they have an awesome tray that you use water pens with and its double sided. I also agree with pp about art supplies or even puzzles with bigger pieces.

    I feel like we already have everything but family and friends still want to get him something.  The things we have on his amazon wish list are:

    -oven mitts for his kitchen
    -High Five magazine subscription (toddler/preschool version of Highlights magazine)
    -stringing pegs and pegboard set
    -snap cubes
    -doctor set
    -teach me time talking alarm clock
    -Ispy & where's waldo books
    -books and puzzles
    -match box cars and mini monster trucks
