Stay at Home Moms

Would you tell on her?

So I'm out running errands and eating lunch at my favorite place (Taco Casa of AL), so a typical Sunday. Anyway, on the way here, I was behind or beside a white Jeep Grand Cherokee for most of the way. It swerved, slowed way down, sped up and just basically was a horrible driver the whole way. I pulled up beside it at a light and shocker...teen age girl and boy, driver was the girl and she was on her iPhone and had her knee on the steering whelp at the light. After that, she also managed to run a just turned red light. Well, wouldn't you know she was headed to the same place I was and now she's eating with some friends and what looks like two mothers (they paid for the food). So I've never considered doing something like this, but I feel like I should mention something to the mom and/or the girl. It was pretty bad. She ran off the road at least three times.

  • Total stranger, no way.

  • I think I'd make some sly comment like "Good to see you got off your phone for lunch!" or "Do you think you could teach me how to drive with my knee?" or  something like that.

  • I really don't see it going over well.
  • I'm half "I don't give a shit if they get mad, it's fucking dangerous" and the other half that won was "Don't want to potentially cause a scene". The issue was not only was she texting and driving, but she was REALLY bad at it. She could have hurt others doing it. I don't care if its just her that Gets in a wreck, but she was overcorrecting into the other lane when she would run of the road.
  • I would have called the cops on her! When I see people driving that dangerously I call a suspicion that they're drunk since the way she's driving she very well could have been. I wouldn't have said something to her directly because you have no idea how she will react or if the adult with her is her parent.

  • Eeeee, tough one, I might go up to the table and politely ask which one was her mother and ask if I could speak to her alone for a second.  Then I would politely inform her  of her daughter's dangerous actions behind the wheel and end with saying that if it was your daughter, you would want someone to tell you because it could be the difference between life and death.

Or, you could be a crazy stalker person and follow her when she leaves and call the police as soon as she messes up.

I was so close to doing it, but decided not to at the end, since a friend came in who I started talking to.
  • Ugh, awful situation!  I would probably call the police next time, but I really wish it was 'ok' to say something to mom without thinking you might cause a scene or that she'd react badly.  Like others have said, I'd want to know.

In the past, I have asked to speak with my neighbor girl privately and told her my problem (radio was super loud on a regular basis) and asked if she'd refrain in the future.  Her mother obviously overheard me and then thanked me for calling her on it.  However, I knew them so it's different.
Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!

You could speak in metaphor - LOUDLY! (you know, when you're having a conversation with a friend and forget your volume level!)  "OMG I'm SO glad I got here, there was this chick driving a (vehicle description)...  My gosh, I was about run off the road 4 or 5 times by this (hair colored) chick!  Then, we get to the light, she's steering with HER KNEE while texting on the phone..  Then runs a red light...  My gosh, I hope she got where she was going safely!  I was about a step away from calling the cops for fear that the person was drunk!  Hey wait - THAT'S THE VEHICLE - RIGHT THERE!!  Same license plate and everything!!!

  • i'd be more likely to call the cops than to confront her. *especially* if i was pregnant. people are crazy as hell and follow people home or shoot them over minor confrontations or even over nothing at all. so if it felt necessary to do something, i'd try to make it anonymous for my own safety.
  • I'd find a paper and leave a note on the table for the mom as I walked out. :)

  • I've called the police 3 times over kids either driving erratically or doing stupid things - not bc I want them in trouble but I am worried about their safety - and others safety. I wish I'd have guys to say it face to face but I couldn't do it.

I would call her out. In the past I wouldn't have but I was babysitting about a year and a half ago and a young girl almost t-boned us when she flew through a stop sign texting. I was livid! I just have no patience for that shit and people should be held accountable for it.

  • I probably wouldn't, but I'd love to watch while someone else did.
