White vs wood finish crib

I was convinced I wanted a white crib, but now after shopping around it seems like the white cribs look more worn even in the store than the wood finished cribs, so I can only imagine how they'll look after at few years use. Any mamas out there have some advise or opinions on the matter? Please and thank you

Re: White vs wood finish crib

  • We have the Davinci Kalani Crib in white and have had it for 2.5 years and it still looks great.  Used it for DD and will use it again for this LO.

  • We were going to by a painted crib with ODS but read a reviewer of the crib complaining that her LO would always wake up with a mouthful of paint chips, so we settled on stained wood instead and had no issues.

  • Ours is an antique white color but by no means does it look worn or old.
  • Originally I had planned on white, but like you wasn't go impressed by what I saw in stores. I ended up going with a wood finish.

  • We've had a white crib for about 2 years now and it still looks brand new and beautiful. I love her purple and white room. I think all the people shopping in stores touching the white cribs is why they look dingy. We didn't go with the cheapest crib but with a mid range crib, if that matters.

With this DD, we are buying a dark crib because it goes better with our color scheme. We'll see which one holds up longer I guess.

  • I bought a white crib. There are all different shades of white and mine is very bright white. The only problem with white is that if you don't buy a full collection whites can be hard to match. I have a dresser and cabinet and they don't perfectly match because of the different shades.
  • I had a dark stained crib with DS and it looked horrible after the first year. It was hard to find a stain pen to fix the nics and scratches. This time we went with white. I won't do dark stain again and I personally don't like natural or light stained wood furniture. This one is a used non dropside and it still looks gray at 3 years old.

  • We have an espresso wood crib that was DDs and we will be using it for LO now. I have to find an espresso colored correction pen and touch it up since DD was famous for hitting her cup on the crib and now there is scuff marks all over it.

  • I am still trying to decide between white or wood finish as well. We are having a girl and doing purple, grey, and yellow for the colors of the room. What do you ladies think?

Normally I would just pick white, but we have a wood stain bookshelf that will be in the room that I don't really feel like painting it. Do you think it would look bad to have a mix of wood and white in the room? Or should I just go with a wood stained crib?

  • We got a white crib and matching dresser. I'm not really worried. It might look more worn, but I don't think it will get any more worn then the wood. I just liked the white better. I guess we'll see how it goes, but I'm not really all that worried. The one we got looked fine on display.

I know someone mentioned matching whites can be difficult, and I think the same goes for wood  finishes. We have 3 different shades of wood finish in our master bath because it was hard to find exact matches. I think either wood or white would be fine. We have a french white crib and dresser, and some brighter white frames and shelves on the walls, it's really not that bad at all.

  • Our crib is green after two years of use, it looks the same, it doesn't have any nicks or scuffs. I would assume a white crib would have been the same. Our crib is from Ikea.

I would just get what you prefer. Furniture in the stores gets really beat up, so it may not be a great test of what you would do.

  • We have the Baby Cache crib in white.  After two years it's still in great shape.  We considered getting a second crib for DS #2, but will probably just get a bed for DS#1 since the new baby will most likely stay in our room for the first 6+ months.
  • I'm going with white this time around.  My son chewed up his dark wood finish crib so badly that I'm not even considering about cribs looking worn anymore.  Its eventually going to look like a beaver sleeps in it.
