Is it just people in South Florida or anywhere else?

It really strikes me how cold people here in South Florida tend to be. When DH and I took a road trip a couple months ago up the east coast, lots of people stopped to look at LO, comment on how cute she is, and talk to us about their kids/grandkids, what have you. Very friendly! Here, when we go out, people barely look at her. When they look at her, they don't say anything. Every once in a while someone will say something, and it takes me by surprise. Now I know my LO is not the center of the universe (the center of mine, yes, but....), but it really struck me the difference in how people are down here versus other places. How are people where you live when they see your baby/babies?

  • People say things all the time! People always want to touch her little feet and tell stories :) most the time I don't mind (don't touch though) but some stories are never ending lol

  • I live in South Florida and I notice that a lot of younger kids stop to admire LO. Whether we are grocery shopping or at a restaurant, little kids are so interested in him! Adults and older people will stare a lot and if I acknowledge them they will say something.
  • @smiles21866 where in Florida do you live?

  • @CrazyMary77 I should have clarified--SouthWest FL, Fort Myers. What about you?
  • I've only been out and about a handful of times with M (I know, crazy lady :) ) but people always at least say "Oh how cute!"

I wonder, though, if since I wear him, people are less likely to come right up to us?  I don't know

We get comments and questions all the time in Philadelphia.

    Same.
  • People have came up to me in both Sacramento and here in West Virginia. The thing is, if they look up at me and smile and I smile back that is when they usually come up to me and talk to him and compliment. If I do not smile back or if I am focused on something else they usually go about their business.. unless they have to give me unsolicited parenting advice because we cannot live without it.. then they come up no matter if I have a big red stop sign on my head.

  • Both my kids get lots of attention but especially my DS who is three and a half. He is an exceptionally cute kid (I know I am his mother and therefore biased but he really does stand out in a crowd) and a charmer. He flirts with the ladies when we are out and about and they love it. It does get annoying though when all the attention goes to his head and he starts acting wild. I don't want him to think he can get away with things just because he's cute.

Ohhh that's completely different from South Florida! We live near Ft. Lauderdale.

  • I'm from South Fl and I do think yes its a SoFla thing...ppl down there are more abrasive and busy they don't take time to stop and notice things much less babies. Its weird b/c I live in Ga now and ppl will randomly try to touch LO etc here and it drives me crazy no one does that in South Fl IMO

  • Well I'm in Canada, eh. Most people at least smile at my kids. Almost always we get a comment about DDs hair or someone will ask how old she is and then make some other comment: "oh what a fun age," "oh enjoy it before she starts moving around," etc. or they'll talk about their own kids or grandkids. For the most part I find everyone friendly.
