Mortified...

This maybe tmi and I'm sorry but I figured if I needed to vent other pregnant women would understand. That being said....I am so constipated I want to die. It's been about 4 days and I can't take it anymore. I have taken miralax, colace, coffee, tea, magnesium and NOTHING IS WORKING. I am so uncomfortable I'm about to make DH go to the store for an enema. Anyone have any other suggestions before I send him on the most mortifying errand known to man??

  • I ate dried apricots and cranberries drank a ton of water and sat in a warm bath to get things moving. I've been eating a lot of pears, canned and fresh and that is keeping me regular.

  • Have you tried suppositories? The kind that go in your butt? They always work for me.

    Please please anyone who is going to do this- know that you can stimulate your vagus ( spelling?) nerve and drop your heart rate and possibly pass out.

    If your going to so it do it while someone else is home and can check on you to make sure you aren't just passed out .

    I don't discourage it just want people to be aware.

    Metamucil - coarse milled - textured Fibre.  Get the unflavoured kind and put it in your favorite drink.  I use tropicana low acid orange juice.  Drink it every single day, at least once, but up to 3 times, to keep you regular.  

    I was really constipated my first and 2nd pregnancies, but not sine I started taking metamucil.

    Ducolax worked for me with DD (it is on my dr's okay list of meds). I hadn't gone in a week and I needed relief. I took it right before bed and I woke up early and went. It was a bit...uncomfortable (my tummy kinda hurt), but it worked like a charm! Had to do that a few times during my pregnancy then (thanks zofran! either vomiting or constipation!).

    Also, colace makes it easier to go. Try taking it with some fiber pills like citricel (sp?). That's what's working for me this go around.

  • None of the fiber does anything for me, nor does colace. Have you tried milk of magnesia? That seems to work for me. I take the max dose when necessary.

  • Drink as much water as you can! Warm drinks can stimulate your intestines so have a cup of tea! Dry dries prunes and dried apricots! Sometimes it takes a couple days for Colace to work so don't stop after one day! Good luck I really hope you feel better soon! Constipation sucks!

  • DH lives by Metamucil. I drink a little coffee first thing in the morning and that helps me. Coffee and a banana really moves things along but I know bananas can have the opposite effect on other people.

    -added crazy amounts of water and only water
    -an apple or two a day
    - prunes
    -NO bananas
    ... And I go about once or twice a day now as opposed to every 4-5 days

    Oh I started a probiotic again today and I know it's helping already !

    Probiotics for me too. I haven't really been having any issues and I think that's the reason.

    Is that why I get light headed during anal sex?
    ? Could be- makes sense with the logic behind it. It why we often find people passed out on the toilet because their trying to push one out to much and stimulate that nerve and down they go.
  • Whenever I get really constipated (pregnant or not) I drink a ton of water and then go for a fast walk or a jog.  I usually plan on 3-4 miles, and I'm usually sprinting for the toilet by the end of it.  Something about the movement maybe.

    Cause while pregnant I've never stuck anything up there.. But I'm sure anal would be a little more frowned upon of women were dropping like flies (like that)

  • probiotic at night, poop in the morning.

    I always use it when traveling or having to share a toilet with anyone but my DH. I get stage fright.
