teachers first week back

I was surprised how easily I tired out this week. I'm usually the one bouncing off the walls checking out everyone's classroom and bs-ing like crazy. This year no visiting so far. Energy level =I had to sit down after hanging half a bulletin board and just scooted around on a chair to do my bookshelves lol. On a random side note- SO excited to eventually surprise everyone with a baby bump. I'm the smartass at work who likes to mess with people so I don't think I'll tell my whole staff until it's pretty undeniable. Before that I might fake being offended by baby questions and just tell people I got fat. Since every teacher at school drops their kids off to me every week I'm sure the rumor mill will start and I'll just be laughing my behind off because they can't decide if I am or not. (Some people know already cause I can't keep a secret but I know they can)

Ps I hope you're all having a great start!

Re: teachers first week back

  • Haha :) I'm a middle school drama teacher and so I have a little but if a reputation of the fun, super energetic teacher.... About halfway through meet the teacher night on Thursday I thought I was going to cry if I had to stand for much longer. I don't think it will take long for people to put two and two together lol

  • I'm an elementary school teacher and this week completely wiped me out. I can't imagine what it'll be like when the kids come on Monday!

  • We just finished our first week with kids.  I'm definitely a lot slower with the 7th and 8th graders, but I have to be all bouncy and upbeat with my two sixth grade classes.  Talk about draining!

  • We don't start until after Labour Day.  I know how exhausting that first week is, I can't imagine it this year. :(

    Now we are complete.

  • I teach kindergarten and we had the kids this week! It's always exhausting but this year was triple!! I was asleep by 8 every night!!

  • I have OHSS and have already had to miss the first 8 days of school. EVERYONE at school (parents included) is speculating it's just morning sickness so I've been sure to reiterate the fact that this is doctor mandated because of a bad reaction from a procedure I had done. This is all true but I hope they're not mad later!

I can't wait to go back even though I know I'll be exhausted. It has been so difficult missing this time with my new first graders.

  • Ive only been back two days (thurs & Fri) and I was asleep last night by 8:45 in bed.  I cant not imagine how tired I am going to be when my 3rd graders return after labor day....heres to lots of rest and energy vibes lol

  • Second grade and had a full week with kids. It.was.exhausting. I have a forty minute commute and on my way home a few times I had to pinch myself. Naps when I got home and in bed asleep before 10, one night before nine. Can't wait for second tri!!!

I'm 6w today with my first and so far have only shared with one trusted colleague. Not sure when I will tell my principal, but don't want to make any 'announcements' until second tri.

  • I go back Monday and I'm dreading it.  I remember how I was in first tri with DS and I was basically sleeping at my desk instead of planning.

  • I just finished workshop week and kids start Monday. I don't know how I'm gonna do it. I was so nauseous all week and left early everyday to get a nap in bf I had to pick up my son. Won't be able to do that this week and its supposed to be 95 and I teach on the third floor, no air. Ugh. Barforama

  • I just finished workshop week too, and kids start Monday! I didn't do anything strenuous last week and I couldn't believe how tired I was when I got home each night. It's probably partly because I'm just getting off summer break and I'm not used to 8+ hour days right now, but still--I'm a little worried about how crazy tired I'm going to be next week with the kids!

My first day back is Monday. I teach 3rd-8th grade music. Im kind of sad though, I'm at a new campus this year and am not close with anyone yet. Plus my baby's due to come right before our major programs in the spring, which I'm in charge of, so I'm sure my news will produce some mixed feelings. More though, I'm sad to not be around the people who know me. I was looking forward to a staff baby shower! Selfish?

  • My kids came back this week and I am so lucky to have looped this year with my same kids from last year. I have had nausea from morning to night, so I had to tell them that I must have eaten something bad. I was definitely not my usual "crazy" self. I'm sure they'll put two and two together soon. They are too smart for their own good.
  • I teach Business. Fortunately, I have an office connected to my classroom. This year I installed curtains to block the window to my office. I'm anticipating a few naps during my conference period! ;) I'm already dragging and we don't even have kids until Monday.

  • I just finished my second week with my 8th grade kiddos. The first week of school one of our teachers passed away and I've been helping plan her memorial since I'm on the Sunshine Committee. I'm exhausted, and today is the service. Today will be a very emotionally draining day. But I'll get to sleep in tomorrow!
  • I teach kindergarten and my kids start on Tuesday. Just prepping and setting up the classroom this week had me soooo exhausted! I don't know how it's going to be with actual kids (:| I also had to rest half way between putting up bulletin boards. I'm at a new school this year so I haven't told anyone yet and I want to wait until the second trimester. But I keep getting asked when I want to start having kids! I feel bad just using my standard answer "Hopefully soon..." :)
  • Finished my first week, and I was sooo exhausted. I felt bad for my DH i feel alseep so early all week.  Today I slept in to almost noon.  The week went pretty well though, looks like I have a pretty nice class. Looking forward to the year ahead and hoping to get some energy back.
  • I just finished my preservice week, back to school night, and Open House this past week. I am exhausted. My kindergarten kids start Monday & I am not prepared at all. My ADHD & fatigue were extreme this week. I have no idea how I am going to make it through next week. :(

  • I'm an elementary school mental health counselor so I'm on my feet constantly dealing with major behaviors. When I had the chance I would close my office door sit in my comfy chair and pray no one called me on the radio. But I'm feeling positive about this year and hope the initial back to school behaviors will calm down soon. Have a great year ladies!!

  • I'm a middle school counselor. The students start next week, but I was in this week preparing and calling anxious parents. I was exhausted beyond belief... took a nap three out of the five nights! As a FTM, I'm hoping this fatigue really does only last through the first trimester! Yikes!

  • This was our first full week with the kids. I have a group of kiddos that are going to a challenge this year. I am exhausted and they are EXHAUSTING! Apparently my new bedtime is 8.
  • Our inservice and Open House is next week, I went in Friday to start working on my room I did 2 hours of work and was ready to take a nap, smh. I'm ready for the kids to come back Sept. 3 I just hope I have the energy.
  • I'm starting at a new school, so had orientation last week, this week is setting up/professional days, and starts after labor day. I'm freaked out.

  • My 27 fourth graders come tomorrow! I can't wait to get to know them, but I am dreading how tired I will be. I've been hitting a wall at about 2pm each day, and dismissal isn't till 3:45. Ugh! Hurry up, second trimester, I need my energy back!

  • @jenniferb123006 and @BiggerInRealLife - I am a middle school band director (and by default, an assistant with the HS marching band) so I completely sympathize with both of your situations! We had our first football game yesterday on ESPN (I know, I can't believe they televise these HS games now) and I'm completely wiped out today. Also, I am going to miss so many things being out in April in May, but I'm already talked to my principal and she said to keep the schedule as planned and that we would make it work!

  • We started put the 13th of this month. I have been working toward this career for years, and after finding out about baby and feeling exhausted and a sickness that lasts all day long I find myself dreading the day-I hate to admit it. I am hoping for a brighter 2nd and 3rd trimester.
  • I have professional developments all week starting tomorrow, and kiddos come back next Tuesday.

My DH and I are waiting to tell people (other than, of course, our families and a few VIPs) until our first doctor appointment and U/S, which isn't until 9/17! I'm so nauseous all day long though. I have no idea how I'm going to sit through these meetings and not tell anyone (oh yeah, and not throw up!). Ugh. Not looking forward to tomorrow. :-p
  • I've been back for three weeks. No crazy symptoms yet, besides tiredness, so I'm just letting myself sit a little more. Well see how it goes when symptoms start kicking in. Good Luck ladies who are starting school soon!

I start inservice next week and then I get my first graders after Labor Day. I haven't had any major symptoms yet so I'm just hoping this lasts, at least until we get our routines down!

  • I'm starting a new position this year, so I am pretty nervous about being tired/nauseated. We will see how it goes though. I still have one week of freedom.

  • AliciaBeth and @jenniferb123006, I love having other musicians here! You guys doing band - whew! That's a lot of energy! I'm choir and music theory, so I get to be a bit more stationary. Before I knew about the baby I cut back on my hours and stopped teaching theatre so I could go back to school. That's still the plan, only now it looks like school may have to wait, which I'm sad about, but the timing just isn't working out. Still, I'm grateful for the fewer hours and reduced take-home work load in light of our coming arrival. @jenniferb123006 I totally get your decision and think it's really brave. Don't feel bad; you'll miss your guard kids but the decisions you make to better your family will be much more rewarding in the long run. That's what I keep telling myself. :)
