Allie has allergies. It is on all of her school records. It is noted by her doctor on her records.

I just got a call to come get Allie for a runny nose and cough. :head mother fucking desk:

Unless the cough is making it hard for the other kids in the class to be schooled, then I would not pick her up. O is the same way, but it's worse at night.

First off, that nurse is taking things to the extreme. Second off, it's already noted by her DOCTOR! I would want to smack that nurse in the head.

I picked her up. I will play ball today. Tomorrow, ball is in my court. I am pissed. I highly doubt they read her records. Allie said she was given a cough drop. At the beginning of the year we are given a list of approved items. We have to mark which ones, we want our kids to be given. Cough drops were not marked. I remember marking "other" and listed her doctor approved allergy meds and marking band-aids. I am not bringing up the cough drop issue. It can be an isolated issue and Allie said it seemed to help a little. She has coughed 4 times (yes, I am keeping count) since being home. It was short :hack hack hack: sounds. It wasn't a gasping for air can't breath cough. There will be a note put in her folder along with an email to express that she has allergies and my displeasure of how this was handled.

On top of an email to the teacher, I am debating on emailing the school principal. Being sent home two times since Aug. 8 seems excessive. Especially since neither item was a contagious or life threatening matter. The nurse is a moron. H said I need to wait until tomorrow, so I am not a heinous bitch. (my words not his)

I didn't think to ask over the phone. I was seething. I had nothing nice to say. ALlie even told them it was allergies. I get the teacher not knowing. The nurse should have known. SHE IS A NURSE FOR FFS! I have never sent her to school sick and contagious. It should be known by her attendance last year. She missed a ton of school and was sent home one time the entire year. I am still fuming.

Bring up the cough drops. Sure there were no issues this time but what if a kid who has an allergy was given one?

Is it an actual RN or a health officer (ie anyone off the street who gets "trained). I just can't imagine this happening in my company. The first thing you do when you see a kid is pull their file. I'd be pretty pissed too. Does you school have written guidelines about when kids are sent home? 95% of the time we send home an "FYI, your child was seen for" note and have no parent contact.

Our nurse gives the kiddos a small hard candy to suck on and all the kiddos think they are cough drops. I'd check on it. I know all schools are different but around here the nurse is allowed to give NO meds without consent and even then has to have parents come up to give meds in case of reactions. Hope you problem got resolved!
