Do you have any special Christmas/Holiday traditions that you do/plan to do with your child(ren)?

We worry about what a child will become tomorrow, yet we forget that he is someone today.  ~Stacia Tauscher

Re: ***Central PA Mommies Check-In***

  • I plan on baking cookies with her each Christmas and putting them out, along with a glass of milk, for Santa on Christmas Eve.  We're still working on what our Christmas tradition will be since I work every other Christmas.

  • It is funny that this question came up!  My DH and I just talked about this over the weekend.  We plan on doing the whole cookie thing and having her and DH write a letter to Santa to leave with the cookies ( i did this as a child with my dad) and then on Christmas Eve, we will all open 1 gift.
  • I'm jewish, so I'm leaving all the Christmas traditions up to DH !
  • I'm sorry PABlondie - I edited the question to include all holidays, not just Christmas!
  • I can't wait to write letters to Santa.  I also will do an advent calendar with each child, I loved that when I was young.  The cookies and milk are also a must.  When the kids get old enough I will have them pick a name from an "angel tree" to get a gift for a child who is in need.  By no means do we have much but I want my kids to realize how fortunate they are and hopefully they will continue with the charity as they grow.
  • Caitlin and I are going to go to my parents' house later this week to bake cookies with my mom.  I hope that we can continue that tradition each year.  We are also going to get her a special ornament each year for the tree.  I think we will also do the "elf on the shelf" or pickle ornament tradition when she gets a little older.
  • Probably next year we'll start an advent calendar and a construction paper chain, where the kiddo makes the strips and the chain and pulls one off every day to watch the chain get shorter. We will also continue the tradition of having Santa leave a letter each year by the cookie plate. I got a letter every year saing how proud Santa was of different achievements - reinforcing how much he really was watching!
  • We'll do the cookies and milk thing.  When I was a kid we also used to leave a carrot for Rudolph, so we'll do that too.  I love the idea of doing the angel tree thing.  My parents instilled that in us, and I still do it every year myself.  Also, once me move out of AZ, we'll go out and cut down our own tree every year.

  • Traditions we want to do: cut down our tree, a new ornament each year, bake cookies, leave cookies/milk out for Santa and also write him a letter and trace her hand on it.  I also really like the idea of the angel/giving tree.  I think that is great and will also include that when she can understand. We will also go to church on Christmas Eve. oh...and one more.  Open one present Christmas Eve which will be new pajamas to wear to bed that night!

  • We will do the milk & cookies thing (my family used to do the carrot sticks for the reindeer too!).  I would also like to pick one Christmas movie that we watch at a certain time every holiday season... but that won't be for another 2 or more years until we start that.
