Parenting after a Loss

Intro & BPF (misternmiss)

I decided it's time to intro here and what better time than on BPF?! (And, holy shnikes, it got a little long. Sorry.)

Cole Ellsworth, affectionately known as Sunshine" for the last 9 months, made his entrance into this world on Tuesday August 13 at 3:27 AM, just a few hours past his due date. After having painful contractions for over 24 hours and pushing for over 4 hours, Cole was born via c-section. He was perfectly healthy in every way, at 8lbs 3oz and 19.5in long. He scored 9s on the APGAR and took to nursing like a champ. (when I stopped shaking from anesthesia)

In recovery, my BP dropped dangerously low and it was discovered that my poor tired uterus stopped contracting. I ended up hemorrhaging and losing 1500+ ccs of blood. I spent so much time before his birth worrying about Cole that I never considered something bad could happen to me. But I definitely felt the presense of my angels watching over me, the love of my DH keeping me strong, and the newfound love for Cole pushing me forward.

Recovery in the hospital was slow and fuzzy from all the painkillers and blood loss. I ended up needing a blood transfusion and will need to be on iron supplements for 3 months until my blood count can be restored.

Cole is a peaceful and content baby who continues to nurse well and helps me in my healing process every day. My DH was able to take 3 weeks off work and he has been so amazing at being a father and helping me so I can take it easy and heal faster.

Now, what you've all been waiting for, I'm sure; PIPs. Cole, the only nephew in the family, shares his birthday with his uncle, my only brother. Sometimes I see so many similarities in the two of them. They
are going to have a special bond!

Glad you are recovering nicely and your DH is able to be there. Cole is adorable! I've always loved that name, but since our last name is Burns it was never an option for us...that would just be mean. Anyway, that shot with, your brother I'm guessing, is so funny. That is one adorable little man you have there! Congratulations and welcome!

Cole Burns! That's pretty funny! Our last name starts with a U, so we had to rule out any names starting with F or P. (think of his initials)

Yep, that's my brother. He and Cole both like to catch flies in their sleep. I'm framing that photo as a belated bday gift for my brother, although I'm pretty sure he is happy with the gift of sharing his bday with Cole.

    Thanks for the welcome!
