Allergic reaction to c section wound dressing

I was wondering if anyone else experienced this and if so could provide any advice on what to do to treat it. I had a csection on Monday and had some sort of reaction to the big initial dressing they put over the incision. It resulted in a really big itchy rash all over my stomach. Has anyone else experienced this, if so what did you do to treat it?

  • I had that happen with my appendectomy.  I covered the area with gauze secured with paper tape.  I didn't use any ointments or creams because I didn't want to get them in the incisions (I had 3).

  • I had it with the sticky tape they put over my onQ pain pump right above the incision. It was way worse than the incision pain! Doc gave my some Rx cream for the itch but it took a long time to clear up. With #2 my Ob told me to request a gentle prep which is more sensitive skin friendly. It was much better.

  • My rash was where the adhesive from the big dressing was so my OB told me to put a hydrocortisone cream on the irritated areas. I kept it away from the incision site. The cream helped with the itching, but it still took awhile to go away.

  • Thanks ladies! I picked up some hydrocortisone cream this evening and it is helping with the itch.
