Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

puree vs. solids

DS2 is 13 months and he still prefers (75% of the time) to eat puree over solids.. I'd dont remember this being an issue with our first.
Anyone have a LO like mine lol

Re: puree vs. solids

  • My daughter stopped wanting purees around 15-16 months, although she does like the pouches of fruit and yogurt so she gets those as a snack once a day.  I also have the world's pickiest eater, so that's why I was ok giving her purees for so long.  Now she gets a vitamin each day b/c she's not eating purees anymore but really doesn't eat a variety of foods either.  So frustrating!

  • My little one still prefers purees and his will be 1 next week. We keep offering solids at every meal. Like for lunch yesterday he had chicken nuggets and a sweet potato purée. We also cut up some of our baked potato we had. He will eat some of the solids but won't fill up on them. My pedi said to just keep working with him. Eventually he will make the switch. I'm not worried.
  • I promise you will not have an 18 year old eating purees.

DS was like this, and was on baby food till he was like 16-18 months? He, at 2.5 years, eats all table food now. It just took longer for him to be comfortable with it.

  • My 15 month old has a mouth full of teeth and still loves purées. He eats both table food and I give him veggie purees since he is not big on steamed veggies. Every kid is different...I wouldn't worry. Hey...I prefer smoothies over food many times and I am an adult...lol.....ooh and fraps!

  • I wouldn't worry. Mine is 15 months and has slowly transitioned over the last few months to finger foods and self-feeding. He still gets purees or pouches in the evenings sometimes if he's being cranky. :) But since I continue to push the finger foods and self-feeding, and I continue to see steady (if slow) improvement, I don't worry about it. Pedi agrees with me.
