First Day of School Story (ridiculous!)

Friday was DS's first day of pre-K.  He barely made it through.

Wednesday night, I gave DS a haircut. I made sure he was in a comfortable seat, has towels, toys and tissues for all the crying he was going to do.. What I didn't check was that the trimming clip was secure. He is now very bald.

Thursday, I sat at my desk, finalizing last year's files to give to the new 2nd grade teacher, when a thought occurred to me ..." OMG it's DS's last day at home/daycare/grandma's. How f'd up would that be if something crazy happened?"

I must be psychic.

I left work to get DS's uniform tie and the rest of his supplies, buy some groceries, then head home. Six blocks in, DH called me in hysterics. In between expletives, I heard "Marty", "head", "blood", "Mt. Sinai Hospital". I met them at the hospital and found DS with 3 little band aids on his forehead. I
figured DH was exaggerating.  Then the triage nurse took the band aids off to reveal a GAPPING, WEEPING, THREE INCH SLICE on his dear little forehead. That she pulled open. And put a finger in.

DS was running in the house and fell head first into the radiator. He needed 8 staples. And I still never got his tie.

Since I teach first grade, DH had to do all the parent stuff while I was with my class, like sit in the back during the opening Mass, drop off his supplies and take his tuition payment to the office. As soon as Mass started, DS started to cry. And cry. And cry. Nothing could calm him down and DH wanted to take him home, which is a terrible idea.

He apparently calmed down by the time he got to class and thank god DH lingered at the school for awhile because all the parents were informed that there was NO LUNCH FOR THE Pre K CLASS! So DH, and all the other parents, had to go scrambling for sandwiches and Lunchables. When they parked in front of the school to drop off these last minute lunches, they all got $50 tickets.

I guess it was all worth it when I spotted DS playing with his class at recess. You'd never know from looking at him all the crap we went through to get him there. Well, except for the band-aids.
