  • I've used karo. I put it in DS's bottle.

  • My doctor said to give apple or pear juice if that happens and stop feeding whatever food is causing the problem. Good luck!
  • Just plain old water!

  • Karo? As in corn syrup?

  • The nurse at his 4 month said if that happened give 1-2 oz cool boiled water.

  • Don't Use karo. it doesn't work like it used to, and their is a botulinum risk like for honey until after 1 year old. prune juice/puree works fabulous. if you used juice diluted in water 50/50. i usually give 1 oz juice to 1 oz water once a day and it works great. one of my babies has clay poop too, but it doesn't seem to bother her, so i don't give her juice unless she seems to be struggling.

  • Was told absolutely no to karo. We use 1 oz or prune or pear juice as needed. Get the real juice though, not sugary concentrated stuff. We have had to use it twice and after 2-3 days or 1 oz at bedtime she went.

  • Ya, I suggest trying other things besides corn syrup first. Warm water alone didn't work for T. Corn syrup didn't work and I hated giving it to him anyway. The only thing that has worked for him is warm water and apple juice. He has been on the solid side of poo since I couldn't produce enough bm and started giving him formula. Careful with the prune! If you've ever drink it, you know why!

  • all this talk about corn syrup has me shaking my head.  really?! I would never give that...if I'm irregular I drink water and water and water and water.  Sometimes I think we overthink "tips and tricks" from the pedi and should maybe use our common sense more.

  • 4 people in my family kept telling me to and I kept skirting around it and ignoring them so I asked my pedi what to do and he told me to do a whole oz of corn syrup in his bottle 3-4 times a day. I never did that and am frustrated that this is the only advice going around.

  • How about castor oil? Works to induce labor, right? ;)

Just kidding. Seriously, no one give your kid castor oil. If your LO isn't straining or the poop isn't hard, I would worry about it. Poo will go through a whole gamut of colors and textures with changing diet. Just keep LO hydrated.

  • It's from the rice cereal... Try oatmeal. It's a first food and does not constipate them. It actually helps keep them regular. Also, pear juice will do the same as prune juice but sometimes the prune juice will cause stomach cramping where the pear juice will not.
