Waking up in the middle of the night

My son, who just turned 2 this past weekend, has been waking up in the middle of the night for about the last 3 weeks.  He wakes up and SCREAMS and SCREAMS until either my DH or I come into his room.  It's usually at around 2-3am.  His twin sister, who has her own room right next to his, occasionally wakes up to his shenanigans but not all of the time.  My son is usually a GREAT sleeper.  Both of the kids have been... we have been so lucky, until now.  Not sure what gives?!  Anyone else experienced this?  Hoping this little weird phase passes soon... it's reminding me of the newborn days! AY!

Re: Waking up in the middle of the night

  • DD did this for a few weeks, I found if I could get there when she first started wimpering and shush her she would fall right back asleep. After about a week of this she started STTN again.

  • Don't be scared by what I'm about to say...

but DD this this for three months straight.  I'm not even exaggerating. She get up in the night screaming, be awake for about two hours, and not fall asleep unless I was with her.  It went on right up until DD2 was born, and I was terrified that I'd never sleep again between the two of them.

Then one night week after we brought the new baby home, we just told her to get back in her bed, just like we had hundreds of times before with no luck.  And that night she did.  And she has been STTN ever since.  So. Weird.

  • Oh boy! Haha... I am hoping it's just his molars coming in.  He did STTN last night so DH and I did a victory dance this morning.  We will see what tonight brings!!!
