Stupid Onesies

s/o returning baby gifts... lets talk about awful novelty onesies. Whats the most obnoxious one your little one has gotten? Do you keep them, or do you return/donate?

We were Team Green so this is only recently starting for us. Now we're Team Donate. I rolled my eyes pretty hard at "Daddy's Princess", but then theres this...

Re: Stupid Onesies

  • I received a couple onesies that say "beautiful just like my mom" and "baby miss America." How could I ever let DD2 wear those without looking conceited?! lol I do let her wear them around the house though bc they are SUPER soft. I just change her if someone is coming over!
Two under two, here we come!

We got one that has eerything labelled (head here, arm here, etc.), that says, "daddy-proof" in big letters. DH was pissed! It looked like a onesie for people who say their DH is "babysitting." We also got one with this printout in hot pink of a "babybook page"? A la Facebook? I don't even know. It's terrible. Can't people just stick with Carter's or something?

Then again, we also got a "Daddy's little Cylon" onesie that we love, which I realize not everyone would go for ;-)

  • I hate onesies that say stuff like "Mommy's princess or Daddy's little slugger" (or fill in the blank). I like a good humorous onesie though.

Omigod- my mom gave me that one! I'm assuming because of my shoe fetish.

  • The only one I got was a 'future cheerleader'. Most everyone knew I was picky about clothes and also went a little crazy shopping for her myself so I didn't get many clothes.

  • I got one that says, "100% spoiled rotten", we brought that one back. Then one from MIL that says, "I can at grandmaws house" um, no.

  • I really don't understand who would buy these! My Dad loved one that said "iPood" and I don't know why he thought it was so funny.

  • Nothing like that, yikes... :-S

Honestly I'd keep it for LO to sleep in. Poop, pee & puke doesn't discriminate ;)

  • We got one that says "Ladies Man". He wears it to bed or under a shirt. I hated all of the princess stuff that DD got. I returned what I could and donated the rest.

Yeah me too. Right up there with grown up clothes that say stupid things.

We got this one too...I thought kinda strange. Was from a work friend.

  • We have gotten some of the most hideous things from my inlaws. I really should include pictures. Twins open up a whole new world of obnoxious onesies, the worst of which we have received are "he did it" with arrows. Two of these. Hardy har har. We are definitely team donate!

  • So I'm not the only one who doesn't like princess stuff!  Someone actually gave us a onesie that says "Princess" and has glittery butterflies on it with a big tutu attached.  So over the top! I'm a simple onesie kind of girl.  Of course, I'm thankful for clothes- she growns so dang fast! I know of someone expecting a girl in October- can't wait to unload some of these on her- haha!

  • I got one that says boob guy, lol, and well, he is, so I kinda liked it. He only wore it twice though before he outgrew it, and only around the family. I did buy him one with a pirate on it that says pirate underneath, but has the numerical pie symbol for the first part of the word, because DH and I are dorks like that. @gulickr I could totally get on board with a little Cylon onesie.

Am I the only one who thinks that none of these are really that bad? It's not like they say pothead in the making or anything. But maybe I'm just a sucker for princess and sports outfits.

Agreed. I'll take anything I can get!

  • @maryannespier I completely agree, haha.
  • Someone gave the exact same one to me. It's in my stash of go to onsies. Aka if we're out and about and something nasty happens I'm ok with tossing it...
  • DHs brother got him one that said lock up your daughters or something. It's not really my deal but he'll wear it a coup,e of times. I like ones that says some harmless stuff like cuddle monster or mommas little monkey or daddy's little buddy or something.

These all sound horrible. The only one we have is one from my mom that says "Does this diaper make my butt look big?" and we only kept it (and she only bought it) because we're using cloth and for a few weeks during pg I was worrying that her CD would make her butt too big for all of her clothes. She only wears it around the house though. Otherwise all of ours are solid colors or patterns. I like simple.

We received this onesie also, but in a larger size. As someone who struggled with weight and body image issues, I can't imagine putting it on my little girl. I guess it's not like she can read or understand it, I just really want to avoid passing my issues on to her.

  • We have a "I'm just a stud muffin looking for my cupcake" gown. My BFF got DS a onesie that says "Mommy needs a glass of..."with a huge picture of a wine glass on it. He'll wear that around the house...

  • One we received said "Little Diva".... Ugh. Anything that said Princess on it or had monkeys on it went back! Lol

Omg I got one with a truck on it that says "I dump big loads". This seems borderline sexual to me. Creepy. Donate.

I've seen ones that say "all mommy wanted was a back rub" and "all daddy wanted was a bj". Yuck.
  • A neighbor gave me or that says Divasaurus. No, my infant is not a diva. She's a baby. I'm not one for pink & princesses, which could be why people keep referring to DD as he. If the clothes aren't pink, people assume boy.

Me too. I was talking to a friend yesterday who feels the same way, and she said that someone once thought her daughter, who was wearing a dress and purple leggings, was a boy...because she had a blue pacifier! I mean, really? If it doesn't have pink glitter and a tiara?? Sigh. Poor DD is going to be mistaken for a boy a lot, because mommy likes green and orange and navy. Whatevs.

All of these make me laugh at the content, but I'd side eye the crap out of any parent that put their kids in these.

ETA: I should note that some are OK...
  • Lol I would definitely put my kid in a "I can't even walk yet and I already hate the ravens" shirt.
  • I prefer simple colors and basic patterns. BUT I kinda get a kick out of some of the humorous ones. I won't put her in one of them and bring her to church or something. But around the house? Who cares! If it puts a smile on my face, she can wear it at home.

  • DH veto's anything that is too out there. I don't like the ones with dirty meanings. I do have bib that says "My dad is a sailor what's your dads super power" DH just rolls his eyes
